About this listen
Anyone who knows her wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Jilly sees the world through a prism of faerie tales. It was years before I came to understand that she wasn’t just being whimsical when she talked so easily about hobs and brownies and various kinds of faerie creatures.
They were real.
Faerieland, otherworlds, and all the denizens and creatures you might imagine to live there.
It was all real.
And so were ghosts.
I remember when I first realized this. I felt like my head was going to explode.
Juniper should have known better after her last foray into the otherworld. But when she’s asked to look into a mysterious box full of poltergeists she ends up making a promise to seven teenage ghosts that puts here directly in the crosshairs of a blood witch’s deadly ire.

Story
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Guarding a prince from terrorists and religious fundamentalists is hard enough, but it seems like the entire supernatural world is after this guy too. Story
The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it’s the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city - gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific work of Jack the Ripper in the autumn of 1888. Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect.

A Delightful Tale For The Spooky Season!
I've been reading Charles de Lint's work since I was a teen. Now in my thirties, I'm still delighted by the charmingly spooky stories that are spun. This story is no exception! It's a tale full of twists and turns as well as surprising moments of support and affirmation. A delight, and the perfect thing for Halloween.

Good story
This was a tidy and simply plotted story. It is not up to the standard that I think the author normally writes. It’s a fun listen and I always enjoy de Lint’s writing.

Great story
One doesn't need to have read extensively in the series, except to know that cousins have a special meaning. The ghost girls kept bringing Coraline to mind. And storybook characters Fforde's Thursday Next series. And of course Hogwarts. But most of all, op-ed pieces in the culture-and-society columns of your favorite rainbow news outlet.
