Story
“These poems were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence. I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins. My freedom lives in these pages, and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness,” says Fox.

Story
Just weeks before his death in late 2016, Leonard Cohen told The New Yorker that he was ready for the end to come. He just wanted enough time to put his last book in order. Fortunately, that time was granted. The Flame is Cohen’s eloquent farewell, a valedictory collection of lyrics and poems that maps his singular creative journey. As noted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s citation, “For six decades, Leonard Cohen revealed his soul to the world through poetry and song - his deep and timeless humanity touching our very core.”

Story
The Superpox-99 virus has wiped out nearly the entire human race. Governments have collapsed. Cities have become graveyards filled with unspeakable horror. People have resorted to scavenging from the dead, or taking from the living. The entire industrialized world has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, decaying bodies, and feral animals. To stay alive, U.S. Deputy Marshal Mason Raines must forage for food, water, and gasoline while outgunning those who seek to take advantage of the apocalyptic anarchy. Together with his giant Irish wolfhound, Bowie, he aligns with survivors of the town of Boone in a life and death struggle against a gang of violent criminals. With each deadly encounter, Mason is force to accept his place as one of the nation's few remaining lawmen. In a world now populated by escaped convicts, paranoid mutants, and government hit squads, his only hope to save the townspeople is to enforce his own brand of frontier justice.

Story
In Grief Day by Day, Jan Warner draws on her own extensive experience and the experiences of the 2 million followers on her Grief Speaks Out Facebook page to offer hope in its most practical form. This audiobook does not look to offer a solution to grief. Rather, it provides supportive, useful guidance to help you create a life in which peace, and even gratitude, can coexist with your grief. There is no “right way” to grieve, and there is no right way to use this book.

Story
Frederick Buechner has grappled with the nature of pain, grief, and grace ever since his father committed suicide when Buechner was a young boy. He continued that search as a father when his daughter struggled with anorexia. In this essential collection of essays, including one never before published, Frederick Buechner finds that the God who might seem so silent is ever near. He writes about what it means to be a steward of our pain, and about this grace from God that seems arbitrary and yet draws us to his holiness and care.

And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Beautifully written and moving collection of poetry
This is a beautifully written and moving collection of poetry. It is extremely heartfelt and sincere. The narrator did an amazing job. She was clearly able to express what the author was feeling when she wrote each poem. It was quite impressive and enjoyable to listen to.
I would like to thank the author/narrator/publisher for generously providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Raw Emotion, Feeling, Loss, Longing, Love.. :)
It's difficult to really "review" something so personal and subjective, but I truly enjoyed it and thank Jamila for sharing her innermost feelings with us. It's a collection of short and long poems running the spectrum of emotions, loss and sorrow, regret, pain, longing, anger... it runs the gamut. It's real and raw and sweet at times, and I really enjoyed reading/listening to them. Some of my favorites include "Dylan," "Murder," "One Last Request," "Judgment Day," "I Will Remember You," "We Can Overcome," "The Unknown Soldier," "Save Me," "When The Shadows Fade," "Why?," and "When We Were Younger." Great Listen, and inspires me to write more :)

Wow, this is super deep.
She definitely has a gift for writing. The poems in this collection have so much emotion in them, it is absolutely amazing.
The narrator captures all of the emotions and then some. Excellence.
Beautiful writing. I'm practically speechless.
I NEVER listen or read poems or poetry, literally EVER. This is nothing like the stuff they show you in school about poetry. I never got anything out of the poetry I was taught in school, thus I hated it.
This collection of poems makes poetry seem highly underrated.

Jamila Mikhail's "Innermost" is nothing short of a contemporary poetry gem that transcends time and resonates deeply with the human experience. The collection is filled with visceral imagery and profound reflections that explore love, identity, loss, and resilience. Mikhail's unique voice and authenticity shine through each verse, offering readers a raw and unfiltered glimpse into the innermost corners of the heart and psyche.
From the very first poem, Mikhail captures the reader's attention with her exquisite command of language. Each line flows seamlessly into the next, weaving a tapestry of emotion that invites readers to pause, reflect, and often revisit the text. Themes of vulnerability and strength are intermingled, reminding us that life is a delicate balance of joy and sorrow. Mikhail’s ability to convey complex emotions with simplicity is a testament to her artistry.
However, the experience of "Innermost" is significantly enriched when enjoyed as an audiobook. Mikhail herself lends her voice to the narration, infusing each poem with the emotions she intended. Listening to her read is akin to sharing an intimate conversation with a trusted friend, where each word resonates even more profoundly. The cadence of her voice, the pauses she chooses, and the subtle emphasis she places on different phrases allow listeners to connect with the material on a much deeper level.

Whether you’re commuting, going for a walk, or simply relaxing at home, the audio experience transforms "Innermost" into a companion that can be enjoyed in various settings.
Moreover, the production quality of the audiobook is commendable, with a clear and crisp sound that enhances the listening experience. The surrounding ambiance and subtle soundscapes add depth to the poems without overshadowing Mikhail's voice.
In a world where poetry is often relegated to the written page, Jamila Mikhail’s "Innermost" stands out as a contemporary masterpiece that deserves to be celebrated in all forms. The audiobook elevates this collection to new heights, making it a must-listen for poetry enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Whether you choose to read it or listen, "Innermost" will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on your heart and mind, reminding you of the beauty and complexity of the human experience.

3.5 Stars. Good emotional read.
***3.5 Stars***
Good emotional read. Mikhail expresses emotions we have all wrestled with. Her prose are dark and heart-rending. The emotions in this collection of poetry are heavy. Her publishing them is brave and I applaud her exposing her soul to the world in this way.
