About this listen

He was ready for the game. The initiation and the aftermath...that was a different story.

Carter Lynch was an outsider, an army brat transfer. He had what it took to be a star. He was focused, talented...violent. Carter didn't join the football team to make friends or win championships. He didn't care about anything but taking a starting spot, earning a scholarship, and leaving. Until he met Sara and Ben.

Ben was desperate to fit in, desperate for the same starting spot, and desperate for the same girl. The uneasy friends were on a collision course that would change everything. Adult language and sexual content.

Very well written. Very well told.

Another very insightful book by this author. High school/football antics. Family dynamics. Sex. Alcohol. Hazing. Domestic abuse. Child abuse/neglect.

There is a lot of play by play football in this story. So I hope you like football.
The dual narrators do a very nice job presenting the story. However, the females all sounded the same. But didn't distract at all.

So very well written. So very well told.

Great book!

I totally enjoyed this book but it was disturbing. It follows a high school football player thru a thought provoking roller coaster of emotion due to several abusive situations. If you are triggered by such things, this is not the book for you.

Compelling Coming-Of-Age Story

Phil M Williams has written a story about two boys who both wanted to join the high school football team. Once chosen, new team members are forced to go through a rite of passage by the older team members. This initiation can sometimes have devastating consequences. The story was heart-breaking and relevant to what happens in schools today. There was some sexual content. Tristan Wright's and Sarah Grace Wright's narrations were evocative and added to the story's impact. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Coming of age is so hard!

I wish all our teens these days had Carter and Sarah's sense of self. This is especially true when our parents leave a lot to be desired. Carter has a lot of trials and tribulations but keeps moving forward - always. Great coming of age story. Loved this book!
