About this listen

If Asher Hearst had a superpower, it would have to be his ability to take a punch, laugh it off, and keep on swinging. So yeah, immortality comes with a few perks.

As a college student slash small-time fixer, he's about to take a job that's best left to the pros. A proposition by a dryad to save witches from the Inquisition is a first, but he isn't one to balk when the odds are stacked against him. Especially not while he's drinking on someone else's dime.

The powers that be in the supernatural world aren't anything to sniff at, so it should come as no surprise that Asher gains his fair share of enemies. At the very least, you'd think traveling across space and time would put him on a path towards a promising future - maybe even give him a shot at romance? Yeah, right.

Immortal: Curse of the Deathless is an action-packed, dark and gritty comedy with a dash of horror. Over its three parts, the book spans a contemporary, urban setting, as well as Tír na nÓg, the demesne best known for being home to the Fae (Sídthe) from classic Celtic Mythology.

not bad

I received this book free of charge for an honest review. I liked it, maybe because I have the same smart ass mentality as the character but regardless it was a good listen.

Worth a listen!

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
I really, really enjoyed the story, it was a bit long, and maybe should have been more than one book, but it was enjoyable all the same. There were a few grammatical errors that jarred me back into the real world, but some of them I couldn't tell if they were made by the author or the narrator since I didn't have a hard copy to refer to. They weren't bad enough to keep me from finishing the book, however, I really hope Mr. Edgington will get a good editor/proofreader in the future. I'd hate for his talent to be diminished by silly errors, and I do think he has talent. His world was well-done, his characters likable when they were supposed to be and nasty when appropriate. Good job to author and narrator both.

Wonderful Audible- deeply felt, gracefully written

I worried that maybe this might be one too many books in the Immortal series BUT I WAS SO WRONG. This book/audible was so, so good! It has everything you would expect from Derek Edgington book. It was infused with the perfect blend humour, passion, heat, danger, intrigue and even evil.
I was wonderfully surprised once I started reading the book (and in fact, could not put it down). First, the book is incredibly well written and crafted - weaving together threads: the life of Asher Hearst, the obsession of the author with the story, and the science behind supernatural power.
This story is fantastically amazing read, fascinating, inspiring and heartbreaking. I highly recommend! A treasure!

humorous.

this was a very entertaining book. A lot happens in this book, it's a lot of action. but the humor of the main character Asher is the most enjoyable! I would recommend this book to those who like paranormal books.

Good story, narrator killed it for me

Couldn't finish. Writing was okay and there were original story points and good humor. The narrator is why I "put it down". Example: First half had a sex scene that could have melted steel ... if the narrator hadn't read it like stereo instructions. Acme 1990s stereo instructions, the kind with no remote, one tape cassette player and "Made in WHERE?!istan."

Immersive story

Any additional comments?

Very good listen. Many varied characters and situations that are entertaining and engaging. I enjoyed the humor Asher showed throughout the entire story. A good adventure and chocked full of witch, shifter, and fae intrigue. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher

Witches & shifters & elves & fanatical inquisitors

Oh, my!!!

A very amusing and entertaining read (listen).... The trials and misfortunes of an immortal college student among shifters, witches, and elves, while trying to stop an end-of-the-world-war with the Inquisitors who want to destroy all of the heretics.... How many ways and times can Asher nearly die, all the while spitting out sarcastic comments? The world may never know as there is a sequel and (hopefully) a series following. I couldn't wait to see how this one ended... I don't think you will be able to either....

Tense, grimy, and hilarious - A must read

What did you love best about Immortal: Curse of the Deathless?

I absolutely loved the way the book was written - Its pacing was perfect and it had an excellent mix of humour and action. The author definitely knows what he's doing and I was always left wanting more.

What other book might you compare Immortal: Curse of the Deathless to and why?

I feel like this is slightly similar to some of James Patterson's novels, particularly the Max series - There's never been much to satisfy my craving for more of the franchise but this definitely did the job!

What about Nik Magill’s performance did you like?

I feel like the narrator's performance was fitting to the tone of the book - You could hear the emotion in his voice and personally, I felt incredibly engaged throughout. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more of his work!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't recall any one moment in particular, although there's definitely a massive mix of emotions in this book - I remember myself finding a couple of moments in the book emotional, but at the same time there were some laugh out loud moments as well as nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat action scenes.

Any additional comments?

I'd absolutely recommend this book to anyone - From action enthusiasts to supernatural fans, to people who are just looking for a funny read. It covers all bases and I'll definitely be listening to/reading more of the author's works.

Reasonable - Worth trying

Where does Immortal: Curse of the Deathless rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

An interesting story, although the character does show lots of normal flaws he does seem a little resilient for even an Immortal , but I would advise that you stick with the story as it does get better.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Immortal: Curse of the Deathless?

The constant sticky situations that our hero Asher finds himself in stand out , his methods of extraction do take you by surprise and the action can be quite fluid.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Found that especially at the start the tone was just a little too flat and it took quite a while for me to get used to the voice before I started picking up on the subtle inflections, not too sure if I would find the narrator better suited to a different type of book , but eventually I did find that it didn't affect the storytelling as time went by

Any additional comments?

Dependant on price and availability I might either go the Ebook route for the next in series or try another audible now that im more used to the narrator.Overall I would state that this is worth trying out .This Audible was gifted to me in return for an honest review and as such is my own opinion and view.
