Story
Most of the successful private prospectors who’d struck it rich during the California and Nevada gold rushes during the mid- to late-1800s, had journeyed westward with a specific plan from which they never deviated. Upon achieving their pre-defined goals, they packed up and returned to their original homes in distant regions of the United States. There were also plenty of others, who’d been unable to pull the plug after striking it rich, believing their lucky streak to be a never-ending one.

Jack Lewis had been in prison for 15 years, but today was the day he got out on parole. After the bus dropped him off, he was met by his best friend, Charlie Walker, now a deputy sheriff. Charlie offered Jack a ride. When he asked, “Where to?” Jack’s reply stunned him: “Gull Cove.” Upon entering his house, Jack discovered a girl named Tamika asleep on the couch—his sister's daughter. While the two siblings got reacquainted, Tamika played pool, but the balls kept getting stuck. This prompted Jack to reach into the ball return, where he discovered a bloodstained glove.

Publisher's summary
TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION
Four years ago, Nick held Emily hostage, but he escapes the law and pursues her again. In a desperate flight from Nick’s clutches, Emily crashes into Zach, an intriguing Scotsman. Identity Lost is a tale of survival, not only in Emily’s childhood home, but survival in nature’s harshest elements.
Interwoven in this story is her quest to uncloak the big family secret and discover her real father. But he’s not the man she imagined. Just the opposite, and the evidence is shocking.
An avalanche traps Zach and Emily, thrusting them into a fierce battle with a Pacific Northwest winter. One disaster after another threatens Emily, but unexpected new hope shines into her darkest days. Will Emily let Zach into the fortress of her heart? Will she be free from identifying with her corrupt past and find peace with who she is? Emily’s remarkable adventure—based on a true story—must be told.
Identity Lost is book two of The Taken Trilogy. In book one, The Captive, Beth, Emily and Kathrin were kidnapped. Each book is about one of the three women. Because life is unpredictable, author Theresa Wise enjoys creating stories that have unusual surprises. One of her favorite questions is, “Did you ever think you’d be …?”

Another Great "Taken Trilogy" Listen
Listening to book 2 in the Taken Trilogy brings this story to life! Lots of twists and turns, and the fact that it's based on true events makes this a great listen. Jenny Meyers narrates Zach's Scottish accent in such a way that I can "see" this Scotsman. Great job, author and narrator!
