About this listen

You like it when the outlaws win? When survivors turn the tables on their abusers? Then this is a story you’ll love. Listeners will benefit from the full emotional impact of the story.

How Wonder Woman Became a Smuggler is an adventure-fueled tale of a child coming of age in the midst of domestic violence to become an outlaw.

Anyone who had a troubled childhood involving domestic violence should listen to this book.

  • A broken child
  • A scarred woman
  • A wounded mother

The book opens with the heroine as a child at age six who believes she is Wonder Woman. At age seven, she witnesses the rape of her sister by her father. And as children do, she blames herself for her helplessness.

The narrative fearlessly and proactively blends biography and psychology to expose fresh truths about generational dysfunction.

The 60,000-word novel is written as literary fiction and spans several genres including True Crime, Family Sagas, Coming of Age, Domestic Violence, Biographical Fiction, and Women’s Fiction.

It reads like a reporter’s account of the era of ma and pa marijuana smugglers of the '70s and '80s.

GOOD READ!

I enjoyed it although it is hard to tell which parts are actually true! The narration was not the best since you could hear noises in the background. My heart literally breaks for the innocent children and I am overjoyed when they succeed in spite of their negligence. The author did a good job with her story! I am waiting to see what book 2 will reveal! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Poignant

This book is read by the author as if she's sitting beside you with a cup of coffee telling you her life story. It's not a polished audiobook performance, but it's a very authentic one. She tells you hair-raising things that happened to her and her siblings as if it's just another day. But for a lot of us, it's a glance into a world we know nothing about.
I was provided this audiobook in exchange for a review.

Good story, low quality narration

This is a wonderfully compelling true story. The biggest downside though is the narration. It seems like it was done with minimal audio editing/prep. The reader stumbles several times, correcting her words. It feels like sitting around at home and having the story told. Perhaps that's the feeling that was tried for, but given what is my typical listen (High production audio) it was jarring.

The story leaves me wanting more though. What happened after the end? there's some hints in the epilogue, and it's a clean ending just very compelling and it drew me in.

I received a copy of this book at my request in exchange for a fair review.

A unique life story of wild adventure and struggle

Thank you for sharing your story, it needed to be told and needs to be read. Epic in it's extreme highs, and lows... Very thought provoking.

An intriguing story

This book is written and read (by the author) in the style of a memoir, although it's never made clear how much the story is embellished or fictionalized. However, the writing, narration and production all seem quite unprofessional, lending to its authenticity as a memoir. The quality of the microphone is quite poor and there are a few instances of background noise in the recording. There's perhaps a bit more time spent on self-analysis than suits my taste, but it is an intriguing story.
