About this listen

How sex is rewiring your brain - for good and for bad

What does a three-pound brain have to do with one’s sex life? A lot, actually.

Hooked is about what’s happening to your brain when you’re having sex. With scientific data put in layman’s terms, this book demonstrates that:

  • Sexual activity releases chemicals in the brain, creating emotional bonds between partners. This is great news for marriages!
  • Once formed, however, breaking these bonds can have damaging effects on the brain, such as depression and difficulty bonding with someone else in the future.
  • The continual forming and breaking of these bonds can have permanent effects on a person’s brain.

Plus, this updated edition also includes a brand new chapter about the effects of pornography on the brain.

All this data about bonding, sex, and pornography has important implications in a casual sex culture. Regardless of what we wish were true, the facts tell us “safe sex” isn't as safe as it seems. Learn about your brain, the positive effects of sex within permanently committed relationships, and how you can protect yourself (especially your brain) from the dangers of casual sex.

Excellent brain science

The effects of sexuality on the brain is enlightening. Understanding addiction as well as healthy sexual relationships can save us from pain and suffering. I wish I had this when I was a teenager. The section on pornography addiction in the appendix is well worth the price of the book on its own. Thank you!

This book was loaded with information. It initially felt more technical than I anticipated and although I was learning a lot of information, I thought I was going to be a little bored. But I stuck with it through another chapter and I have ended with a wow. This is a recommend.. The information is presented in a great way substantiated And supported with sound loguc. It was helpful

Ideological rather than scientific

This book is clearly ideological. In summary, you should not have sex until you are married, and only do it if you are married. The authors misused scientific knowledge to support their ideological agenda. Their arguments are flawed and illogical. I asked for a refund.

Strong conservative view, biases, and lacking something more

I bought this book with the expectation that it’d be more neural science the political science. The narrators voice is lacking and sounds as bad as this must be to read — I expect, even for hard non-fiction, that narrators with have a dynamic tone, and I know that’s wishful thinking on my part. The narration and story lacked passion, and it’s strong science basis. Most of the views expressed here are about the dangers of having sex and very little about the behavioral sciences surrounding and encompassing it. There are nuggets and gems here that I can connect with. The overall story looses me and is bad enough to make the depth of subject 🤷🏽‍♂️

Biased

Although I agree with a lot of what is said, it was written with such a glaring agenda that it makes it difficult to take it seriously.
