About this listen

Life at St Cadfan’s is never dull. There’s the cellar full of unexplained corpses. There’s the struggle to find food when the island is placed under quarantine. And there’s that peculiar staircase in the cellar....

Being a demon in Hell has its own problems. There’s the increasingly impossible torture quotas to meet. There’s the entire horde of Hell waiting for you to slip up and make a mistake. And there’s that weird staircase in the service tunnels....

Brother Stephen of St Cadfan’s and Rutpsud of the Sixth Circle, natural enemies and the most unnatural of friends, join forces to solve a murder mystery, save a rare species from extinction and stop Hell itself exploding.

The fourth novel in the Clovenhoof series, Hellzapoppin’ is an astonishing comedy featuring suicidal sea birds, deadly plagues, exploding barbecues, dancing rats, magical wardrobes, King Arthur’s American descendants, mole-hunting monks, demonic possession, and way too much seaweed beer.

Although it was not as enjoyable as the first three, it was not bad.
I found it a bit had to keep track of characters from time to time, although the narrator did a good job with the voices, there were a lot of character who were “similar” so at times I was like “wait, who?”
Overall not a bad listen but the other were a bit more enjoyable.

Not as enjoyable as the first three

This book delivers Goody & Grant’s storytelling and humor fine. I’ve given it three stars for story because Clovenhoof is the star of this world. Stephen nor Rutspud are noteworthy enough to make up for the lack of the star character.
This is worth listening to all the same, the authors do good work. Fair warning you shouldn’t expect the fun of the fist two books or substitutes who did as well as Joan.

Same world no Clovenhoof

Worth the wait. Another funny, intricate story with some old friends and new! Total enjoyment.

How do they come up with this stuff!!???

Stephen the monk (or is it Trevor?) finds out more about Hell than he probably wanted to know. His utter good-heartedness wins, which is satisfying; and the worst bird parents in the world set a standard that even Manfred has to make an effort to reach.

The well-constructed chaos, mayhem, and inappropriate relationships are voiced with delight by the euphonic narrator.

Excellent fun

My 2nd fav series after Odd Jobs. Excellent snarky spiritual satire! Well done to the reader. Odd Jobs should be a tv series!

Super confusing and I never really understood the plot but the narrator is amazing so still worth it

Confusing

I loved the first 2 books in this series but then it completely lost me. So many characters and voices thrown in that it's really hard to follow the storyline. It feels like they are trying way, way, way too hard. By the second chapter, I couldn't do it anymore. What started out as a quirky and clever take on Heaven and Hell turned into a hot mess. I tried hard to like them but I just can't.

Ugh. This got old fast.
