From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.

We live in a world of seeds. From our morning toast to the cotton in our clothes, they are quite literally the stuff and staff of life, supporting diets, economies, and civilizations around the globe. Just as the search for nutmeg and the humble peppercorn drove the Age of Discovery, so did coffee beans help fuel the Enlightenment and cottonseed help spark the Industrial Revolution. And from the fall of Rome to the Arab Spring, the fate of nations continues to hinge on the seeds of a Middle Eastern grass known as wheat.

Makes me want to learn even more
When I moved into my new home I discovered just how much of their old pottery supplies the previous owners were leaving behind in the shed. It got me intrigued enough to start looking into how to use it all. I tried a couple of classes in town, but I didn't really find my rhythm until I found this book. If you are trying to create a strong foundation and master your general understanding of beginning pottery before you move onto to anything more complicated, then this book is possibly the perfect place to start. With the confidence it gave me, all I want to do is continue to learn and create more and more.

Embark on a New Hobby
This is a practical text that explains how to create your own pottery from scratch. I always thought that if I wanted to create mugs and bowls for myself, I would need to own all of the equipment myself. This isn't true. I was so excited to find a centre near me that offers kiln time to beginner potters. Armed with this book, I can now hand-build my own pottery without even needing a wheel. I'm so excited to get started! Happy pot-making to all who want to explore this craft with me! Highly recommend!

Very detailed
I had never read or listened to a book about pottery, but this book is very detailed, and I found it to be very interesting. The author does a great job of reviewing different types of pottery techniques, such as pinch pottery, coil pottery, and press molds. The author goes into detail about the different types of clay that is required for the different techniques and what makes them different. I actually learned a lot from this book and have signed up for a local pottery class to give it a go. It's a great book for anyone just getting started or who wants to be inspired for a new hobby.
