Acerca de esta escucha

An instant New York Times best seller!

"Grown exposes the underbelly of a tough conversation, providing a searing examination of misogynoir, rape culture, and the vulnerability of young black girls. Groundbreaking, heart-wrenching, and essential reading for all in the #MeToo era." (Dhonielle Clayton, New York Times best-selling author of The Belles)

Award-winning author Tiffany D. Jackson delivers another riveting, ripped-from-the-headlines mystery that exposes horrific secrets hiding behind the limelight and embraces the power of a young woman’s voice.

When legendary R&B artist Korey Fields spots Enchanted Jones at an audition, her dreams of being a famous singer take flight. Until Enchanted wakes up with blood on her hands and zero memory of the previous night. Who killed Korey Fields?

Before there was a dead body, Enchanted’s dreams had turned into a nightmare. Because behind Korey’s charm and star power was a controlling dark side. Now he’s dead, the police are at the door, and all signs point to Enchanted.

"Never have I read a story that so flawlessly hits the highest high and lowest low notes of Black girlhood in pursuit of the American Dream." (Nic Stone, New York Times best-selling author of Dear Martin and Jackpot)

This book was really good, but also frustrating. frustrating because, as a mother, I just kept wanting to tell Enchanted: no, baby, don't do that!! I'll definitely be checking out this author's other titles.

No baby!!

I'm not a fan of flashbacks but I understand what the author was trying to accomplish. And I'm assuming her mentioning it wasn't based on Rkelly for legal purposes because the storyline is parallel to his case and the accusations against him.

Overall okay

I was pulled into this story from the first chapter and while I screamed at Chant quite a bit for her choices, I walk away with a clear understanding - no one believes victims of sexual assault. This is especially true when celebrity is involved.

Tiffany D. Jackson has another hit! If you haven't read it, READ IT! You won't be sorry.

Believe Black Women!

This book offers powerful insights about the victims, survivors, and loved ones subjected to sexual violence. It’s most essential for those who are not so familiar with these atrocities. We need to believe women and girls when they say they’ve been abused. Keep them safe. Offer support and know the signs. Don’t blame the victims! Hold the perpetrators accountable!

A must read!!

If you haven’t read grown you are missing out. This book puts things into perspective and evokes so many strong feelings that you just can’t put it down once you start. So thankful my bestie recommended it! It has changed my life!

Must read

This book really showed in painstaking detail the slow, careful process of grooming and how a predator can reduce a self assured ambitious well rounded girl with a supportive family to a shell of herself in a terrible situation. I felt Enchanted’s butterflies and her terror her confusion and her shame. I almost didn’t need the thriller/mystery element of the book…at times those moments felt superfluous and in the interest of excitement lent a wacky implausibility to a narrative so deeply grounded in reality. But it was well written and well narrated and while hard emotionally easy read in the sense that it moved quickly. A very important read that I think could help create more empathy for victims of this kind of abuse.

Engrossing and important

I liked it. We all know who the celeb in this book is referencing. But now with Diddy, Drake, etc., it's important to remind young women of the dangers of pursuing clout and seeking validation from the wrong man.

Important read for all young ladies

I felt like I was in the book. I have never experienced this but the author made me feel all the pain and agony that Enchanted was going through. As a black woman, it pains me that we are NEVER believed and we get discredited by any means necessary! Malcolm X said it best, " The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman."

Omg!!!
