About this listen

What parent hasn't occasionally looked at their beloved but bewildering offspring and wondered, what in the world is he thinking, or why is my sweet little girl acting like that?

In this remarkable audiobook, Shaunti Feldhahn and Lisa Rice take you inside the mind of teens and preteens through the same innovative approach that seized national attention in the best-selling book For Women Only, For Men Only, and For Young Women Only.

They explore the results of a nationwide survey and personal interviews with more than 1,000 real-life teens and tweens to tackle those things parents often don't get about their kids.

You'll hear first-hand about the longings that drive your kids' seemingly illogical decisions, the truth behind those exasperating "attitude problems," and what your children would tell you if they could trust you to truly listen.

great points, extremely Christian

Really enjoyed the book even though every 5 to 10 minutes the Christian Presbyterian advertising was brought up again and again. overall I enjoyed the book but it is a bit outdated. I mean Myspace? I was a teen when that was the main social platform. maybe an update is needed with Instagram and Twitter and TikTok. still good book.

Another treasure from Shaunti Feldhahn

This book was very informative… It confirmed a lot of feelings that I’ve had, but not quite sure what to do with. My children are not quite teens and I see the blessing in having these tools in my toolbelt as we enter this next chapter with them. I put a high value on truly understanding and communicating with my kids and loved hearing so much teen-inspired insight of how to keep true harmony, trust, & mutual respect in our relationships. I own the hardback version of this book but had not made the time to read it… Thanks to Audible, I just listened to the whole book this morning and have a clean house now!

Fundamentals and new insights as well

This book has some fundamental information which is good to re-hear and re-learn (such as kids really do feel loved when a parent cares enough to discipline). It also covers some new insights (such as when kids say parents dont LISTEN, what they mean is that we don't understand thier feelings). There is a lot of surveyed information so some of the lessons in this book may or may not apply to your child specifically, but I think that there is enough information covered to portray the ideas and expression of most kids. I enjoyed the book and the narration and the information is "usable". I would recommend it to new an veteran parents alike.

Helpful for now, but a must read later

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this book because it offers a lot of insight into what your child may be thinking.

What other book might you compare For Parents Only to and why?

It is similar to Dr. James Dobson's Parenting Isn't for Cowards as far as offering a lot of statistics about children and their behavior. It is different from Parenting Isn't for Cowards in that it is geared more toward the behavior of teenager's while Dobson's book gives more insight into the younger child.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Children need to feel the security of boundaries from their parents.

Any additional comments?

My son is 5 years old and this was somewhat helpful, however I will find myself reading it again when he gets older.

Excellent book for raising teenagers

This book was a great listen but I feel like it should have been marketed for parents of teens since the book was mostly pointed toward them and all the surveys that were conducted were conducted of teens!

That said, I love the points made!
Teens need someone to calmly take their news. Any strong emotion attached to a response will turn off the child from telling you what is important to them for fear you’ve already made up your mind about it and are ready to display your opinion.

Great concepts....that one was my favorite!

This is my first book on Audible and I love the ability to basically listen to a motivational speaker on topics you’re interested in while doing the daily mundane tasks of life!
