Smart, likable, Bernie Fine was the wonder boy of Wolff's, New York's most glamorous department store. A senior VP moving up, he arrives in San Fransisco to open a West Coast store. His career is skyrocketing, but his life is lacking a center. When he looks into the wide, innocent eyes of five-year-old Jane O'Reilly, and then into the equally enchanting eyes of her mother, Liz, Bernie knows he has found what he has been looking for.
Bernie thought he had found love to last a lifetime, but when Liz is stricken with cancer shortly after the birth of their first child, time becomes painfully short. Alone with two children, Bernie must face the loss and learn how to move on. New people, new experiences, a new life alone with two kids. He meets it with courage and humor, and learns some of life's hard but precious lessons as he does.

A woman and me first read this book aloud to each years ago in the San Francisco Bay area. We have often talk about it, smiling about that time.
Now, I have re-lived those times as I listen to this story.
It a great book to share with you best guy or girl!
Great memories when we first read it.

Would you try another book from Danielle Steel and/or Richard Thomas?
Definitely Danielle Steele but not Richard Thomas. What other book might you compare Fine Things to and why?
I'd compare this book to any Danielle Steele book. Her books are so genuine and guaranteed to touch the heart. How could the performance have been better?
It was like the narrator was running a race! He read too fast often running sentences and phrases together and seemed like he just wanted to get it over with. No real emotion or differentiation of characters.Did Fine Things inspire you to do anything?
Yes, turn the program off.Any additional comments?
I read this book years ago and watched the made for TV movie. One of the few books that actually made me cry. I have a bit of a drive to work and love to listen to books and I was very excited at the idea of revisiting a well loved book. Wow was I disappointed. I could barely make it fifteen minutes and I had to turn it off. The narration was done at high speed with one sentence run into the next and virtually no character development at all. I'll definitely think twice before purchasing another book narrated by Richard Thomas.Disappointing
