Mason finds himself in another world with a video game in his head and power at his fingertips. interesting premise, entertaining characters and a fun ride to the end.

New Series in the Queue

I really enjoyed the whole book. It was fun and witty. There was even a subtle DCC Easter Egg reference which was great.

Do not sleep on this book

This book was absolutely amazing to me. There were times I literally said “I swear if he messes this choice up” and the MC delivered making logical choices. Well at least as far as skill development, the MC overall makes wonderfully terrible decisions which make the story amazing.
Characters are well written, system is great, narrator found their stride, and the humor was amazing.

Think DCC with a little less grimness, or HWFWM but the MC is way more likable.

spent to much time working on the joke and not enough working on the story or the characters. once the humor started to get redundant, there wasn't much to keep you reading.

Idiot MC who just lucks into stuff (plot armor)

It’s not a bad book but I’m over the notion of “I love litrpg, or am a gamer” and continues to do nothing game like that would show a gamer sense. Plot armor keeps him alive and allows him to kill way above while being low leveled. I can see why the jokes might be funny but not really. It’s not very clever and the cliffhanger at the end was expected. At this point trying to play off the tropes of dungeon crawler Carl falls short

How the heck was this so good?

I had very low expectations looking at the cover, but this irreverent punny book had me laugh out loud hitting all my own quirky funny spots. It had the most creative dungeon crawler Carl Easter egg I’ve ever heard!

There are better options in the genre

This book has great reviews and I am a huge LitRPG fan so I decided to give it a try. Really wish I hadn’t. The background of the MC is typical: something traumatic happened and the MC woke up in a new world. My issue is that I cannot follow an MC that is written to be an idiot. The MC remind me of the old comic character Groo. He consistently says idiotic things, drops his weapon during battle, has no perceptual awareness, and makes poor choices. I just don’t like following the story of a fool. I’m bailing after 3 - 4 hours of listening. There are just many better stories in this same genre. Save your money and get something else.
