About this listen

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. The festival was an immediate success and has become the largest and most prestigious book festival in the country, attracting more than 130,000 book lovers each year.

Maria Russo worked as an editor in the Calendar section of the Los Angeles Times, where she oversaw books features. She has also worked at the New York Observer, the New York Times Book Review, and Salon.com. Russo is an editor for TheWrap.com.

David Freeman is a recovering screenwriter and the author of two previous novels, two collections of short stories, and a memoir of his time writing a script for director Alfred Hitchcock. Freeman is the author of It's All True.

Carolyn See is the author of five novels, including her most recent book There Will Never Be Another You. Her awards include the Robert Kirsch Award (1993) from the Los Angeles Times and a Guggenheim Fellowship in fiction.

Amy Wilentz is the author of the books: The Rainy Season: Haiti Since Duvalier and Martyrs' Crossing. Wilentz's latest book is I Feel Earthquakes More Often Than They Happen: Coming to California in the Age of Schwarzenegger.
