Publisher's summary

A miracle disguised as a tragedy (a daughter's traumatic brain injury) became the birthplace of a successful God-centered, residential, entrepreneurial community designed to truly enhance the lives of adults with special needs. Out of this "tragedy" came a new life for this population utilizing effective vocational, emotional, spiritual, and educational methods which provided opportunities to help them find meaning and purpose in their lives through practical education in tandem with life.

This humorous and heartwarming story, with life lessons for all of us, tells the successes and failures of this, "deemed impossible" effort, which illustrates the fact that we not only believe in miracles...we rely on them.

Foreword by Barbara Bush and read by her son, Neil Bush.

Mrs Streit is my hero

I am not one to ever have a hero before, but that has all changed after this book. This woman is amazing in every way and if we all could have half her passion And drive the world would be a better place.
I’m reading it again.

Everyone is Famous for Something

As a teacher, I feel like this book should be required reading for anyone entering the education profession. The journey that the mom of a special needs child travels in order to insure her child has a meaningful learning experience, work experience, and more importantly, a meaningful life experience is remarkable. Within the first several pages of the book, all I have been able to think about is how every community, and every special needs person, could benefit from a place like Briarwood. Such a beautiful story, and the author lending her own voice, makes it even better.
