About this listen

New opera enthusiasts and seasoned aficionados alike will delight in Dale Harris' witty and insightful analyses of La Traviata, Carmen, The Magic Flute, and La Boheme. The notable music critic, whose lectures at the Metropolitan used to be sell-out events, examines these operas in terms of libretto, plot, music, performance history, and cultural background, amply illustrated with musical examples.©1994 Learning Designs (P)1994 Learning Designs United States Opera Witty

Hard to guess the audience

I am more than just familiar with all of the operas that he lectures on. And "lecture" is the operative word. This would bore anyone who doesn't already love the operas. Anyone who already is familiar with the operas and their settings would find it boring, and uninteresting. Too little insight, too many dry facts that do not add richness to the experience of the music, the production or the plot. I cannot guess what class of "reader" this would appeal to me, but I'm definitely not it.
