No ha habido mayor defensor de los valores de la República romana que Marco Tulio Cicerón, el azote de los corruptos y los enemigos del estado romano.Cuando tras cruzar el Rubicón, Julio César se hizo con el poder, Cicerón, sin miedo alguno a las consecuencias, criticó la tiranía de su mandato, que iba en contra de los valores esenciales de la República.Cuando César fue asesinado y Marco Antonio consiguió controlar al Senado, comenzó a eliminar a todos aquellos que pudieran estorbar sus planes.
Aunque no tuviera armas ni legiones, en las palabras de Cicerón veía Marco Antonio a sus mayores enemigas, porque no podía luchar contra ellas. Haría de su muerte un ejemplo.
