About this listen

Retirement ain’t for pussies. Someone told me that once. And I’ll tell you this much—they weren’t shitting me. If you know anything about me at all, folks, you’ll know I’m not much of a planner. Never have been and probably never will be. So when I decided to take early retirement without so much as a fucking whiff of a plan, my crew of geriatric buddies at the Seacoast Majestic Resort came to the consensus that I hadn’t given my future enough thought. I mean, they weren’t wrong. All cards on the table—I hadn’t given it any thought. Who the hell plans their retirement anyway? Like, what’s my to-do list even supposed to look like?

Day 1 – Consume margaritas while sunning on the beach — nap numero uno — poker with the guys — nap numero dos — early dinner buffet — more margaritas — relations with my girlfriend — bedtime.

Day 2 – Margaritas on the beach — nap one — miniature golf with the guys — nap two — early buffet — margaritas — sex — bedtime.

Day 3 – Margaritas — nap — poker — nap — food — drinks — sex — snooze.

Day 4 – Rinse and repeat.

You get the picture. Who needs a plan for that? And you know, my lack of a plan would’ve worked perfectly fine except for the little hassle of needing money to retire. According to Al, I wasn’t allowed to crash on his living room floor for the rest of my life, and Vic Hoffman’s old cottage cost more to rent than a song and a Bentley combined. So, at Al’s persuasion (cough coercion), I was forced to temporarily come out of retirement and get a part-time job to cover my expenses. I won’t get into the details of the job I was forced to get, because that would spoil the story. But let’s just say, it became a clusterfuck in the unkindest sense of the word.

Drunk in Recovery is a comedy crime fiction mystery book rated R for reckless choices, relationship drama, and really creative cussing.

Rated A+ for entertainment value.

I've listened to all 7 Drunk books. I really enjoy the storylines - a normal, down to earth guy from the midwest leading an adventurous life in paradise - what's not to love?

All of the normal characters - less Erica Wilde (good thing IMO) - more crazy "how did you manage to get yourself in to this mess, Daniel?" - which is why we listen to Drunk.

The narrator thought - PLEASE move back to the original narrator. The voices seem a struggle for the reader and, sorry, but the voices just do NOT sound like the personalities of the characters.

I'm looking forward too more in the series - but if the current narrator is used again I'll most likely look for a different series to fill this gap.

Storyline enjoyable - the narrator, not so much

well new reader was decent gave characters unique personalities
by boy author making the main bumbling character more stupid realy was a distraction unlike preivouse books

This series was one of the reasons I subscribed. Drunk was always a bit whining and that fine, but now he just seems idiotic for the sake of being idiotic. Not to bad on the fine narrator for this one, but the original combo narrators made the series come alive. Frankie is just not the same for obvious reasons. I understand scheduling conflicts but the adage of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” rings true here.

So much missing…

New narrator makes Danny Drunk sound like Cheech crossed with a surfer dude.
Please fix.
Story is good continuation in series.
Hopefully Drunk gets a bit more mature and less whiney as it continues!

New Narrator okay, but 'Danny's' voice needs work.

hard to not hear the same old voices after this many books. The performance wasn't bad just not great. As someone who listens on headphones while working with machines this is the quietest audio book I have ever heard, constantly had to back up to hear what I missed

please bring back the original narrator

The voices were terrible. You could not tell the women from the men. I may not get the next one.

Get back your old narrator

The new narrator makes an excited Drunk sound like Hacksaw Jim Duggan and gave 88 year old Al Becker a lisp. Other than that, he wasn’t bad.

I ended up skipping through parts of many chapters as the formula was obvious. Nothing happens to really advance the story in about 2/3rds of the chapters… other than Drunk being a complete idiot beyond reasonable belief. A little back n forth banter is fun listening, the ridiculous banter in this book was done ad nauseam.

For book 8 - please… less banter and significantly more storytelling.

Way too much nonsense

This book was every bit as good as all of the other Drunk books. Unfortunately the narration is not. I don't know what it will take to fix the, "Scheduling conflict," with Chris Boucher, but I won't be buying anymore books unless you do.

Not the same

Struggled to finish this one. I fell in love with this series and every book before this one was fun. This book made Frankie weak and vulnerable which was not her character in the other books. the story was all over the place. Drunk comes off as extremely stupid and it was so annoying to characterize such a sarcastic smart ass as a dumb ass. His quick wit me the other stories but this one for me was a huge disappointment.

Worst book in the series

If you're as much a Drunk fan as I am, skip this one. New reader a HUGE mistake. Plot totally ridiculous.

NOT UP2 DRUNK STANDARDS
