About this listen

Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children—and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses. In this recorded weekend retreat, Pema draws on Buddhist teachings from The Way of the Bodhisattva to reveal how we can:

* stay centered in the midst of difficulty

* improve stressful relationships

* step out of the downward spiral of self-hatred

* awaken compassion for ourselves and others

Total pleasure to listen to this thorough yet simple commentary on Shantideva's text on Patience. Instructive in a practical way, illuminative, lots of real life examples. Seems to be an actual recording of a talk given to a small meditation class.

So concise and precise!

Outstanding book..loved having Pema voice read the book. She really teaches one how to let go and keep your peace of mind with difficult situations as well as not so difficult. After fifteen minutes of listening, I am restored to complete peace of mind.

I am a hard-core skeptic. I do not believe in reincarnation or Karma or anything like that. Yet I found this talk really interesting and super useful. Definitely recommended!

Great talk by Pema, based on Shantideva's work on "Patience." But about a lot more than just what we think of as "patience."

Great

It was a very informative, enlightening Dharma talk. Not an audiobook but still very good.

It is a nice long Dharma talk

Impactful with a witty, entertaining narration that is simply impossible to stop listening to. I drove around a little longer just to listen to this in the car. Instantly began applying the teachings I learned from this lecture (it is a lecture with an audience), into situations in my life the very next day. Definitely will listen over and over when I need a little reminder that we are all doing our best as human beings.

Life Changing!
