About this listen

Meet Mazie May Farley.... If you've ever wondered what it would be like to live above a 1950s Dime Store as a young girl, look no further....

"Summers were my favorite time of all and got a little crazy at times - but a good kind of crazy - ‘cause when it got real busy, I got to work the soda fountain counter. The best part about that was getting to know everybody’s business, and believe me, there was a lot of business to know in Hog Eye Holler."

Take a charming waltz down memory lane in this humorous, heart-warming Dime Store Duet: Farley's Five and Dime and Summer of the Carousel.

Amazing Trip Back to a Better Time

Dime Store Duet: Farley's Five and Dime and Summer of the Carousel. Mazie May Farley Series: Books 1-2 is written by Renee Riva. The narration is provided by Katie Trubetsky. This is a truly enjoyable nostalgic look back at life in rural Hog Eye Holler Kentucky. Mazie, Robbie, and widowed Father run the Five and Dime. They live above the store and have a slide from the upper floors to the store to get down there. The kids work in the store year-round. This is a book for all ages. The story Mazie and her young crush in the first book is truly enjoyable. The second book is just as great with the story of getting to know your neighbor and some moral lessons that apply to both young and old. I highly recommend this audiobook for everyone.

The narration is provided by Katie Trubetsky was highly enjoyable. Ms. Trubetsky does an amazing job with her performances voices the members of this cast. These rural Kentucky accents are truly enjoyable. Her job with the role of Mazie was amazing. I also was impressed with her performance of Edith from the second book as well.
The production value is of the highest quality. I heard no problems during the entire performance. There were not any detectable flaws that I was able to hear during the entire performance. I did not hear any loops, breaks, or buzzing. The production was crisp and clear. Renee Riva delivered excellent audiobook production I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Story is a sweet kids life growing up as the learn and explore.

Story is cute for the young. I wish the narrator didn’t use the voice for the uncle and kin folks. Story is a sweet kids life growing as the learn and explore.

Good Read

Dime Store Duet (Mazie May Farley) was a good read by Renee Riva. This book consists of; Farley's Five and Dime, and Summer of the Carousel. Farley's Five and Dime is set in the 1950s, in Hog Eye Holler Kentucky, everyone meets eleven year old Mazie May Farley. She helps her family run the local Five and Dime. She has had her eye on the popular hunk Billy Ray Baxter and will do anything to keep away from Emma Jean Jacobs. In the Summer of the Carousel Mazie is now twelve years old and her summer is just beginning. She still works in the family store, while also checking in on the new family in town. I really enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Sweet Pair of Stories

Dime Store Duet is a sweet pair of stories about Mazie May Farley, a twelve year old girl growing up in Hog Eye Holler Kentucky. Mazie's mother passed away when she was nine, and now Mazie, her father, and her older brother all live above her father's five and dime store. The store lets Mazie be in the center of all the doings in the small town. Mazie is muddling through her first crush on Billy Ray, the boy every girl in town dreams about, and she gets herself into some scrapes while she tries to catch him. Mazie's not a perfect Pollyana, but she's believable and interesting, and I loved seeing what she was up to next!

I enjoyed the narration, the story is told conversationally and the narrator's performance matched that tone. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

A darling duet of stories told by Mazie Mae!

Mazie Mae Farley works at the soda fountain of her family's five-and-dime, where she is able to learn all of the local gossip and develop a crush on the the hunky Billy Ray Bartlett, friend of her older brother Robbie. She is is just a sweetheart! From tales of hiding in window displays with fishing pole in hand and ice skating in the winter time between breaks from her soda fountain on the beautiful lavender lake right across from the Farley's Five-and-Dime, Mazie (narrated by Katie Trubetsky) is one sweet little story teller, and the tales she relates of days gone by (growing up in the 1950's), are so very sweet and well fleshed-out. Everyone has a distinct personality, and Mazie's is the the most winning, of course!

Renee RIva writes for the young and the young at heart, and this audiobook was so darling! You will fall in love with Mazie and her sweet, look-on-the-brightside demeanor, and this set of tales will keep you delightfully entertained, as you feel as though you are right there with Mazie in the 1950's back at that five-and-dime store and skating rink, along with the tale of the Summer of the Carousel. These stories are packed full of heart and sweetness, and you will not want to miss a moment of this of this delightful audiobook!

I was given this title by Renee for my honest opinion and this is it. I know you will enjoy this coming of age story as well as I did! It is a wonderful addition to her catalog of audiobooks and so very darling. I highly recommend this A++ set of nostalgic stories!
