About this listen

The war to save the Swathe is far from over.

Since the Battle of Shal Gara, the Scions have lurked in the dangerous loam, hunting the survivors of the Last Clan. But malice grows in the treetops and the canopies of the bloodwoods. The lies of the Fireborn creep like a rot through the Swathe, turning citizen against citizen, brother against brother. Their purpose? To open another fiery gate to the demon realm.

Racing against time, Tarko and Serisi must fight not only the demon threat but their own growing power. The bond of nectra and demon blood is as alluring as a precipice and just as perilous. As they become ever more entwined, the path to victory will present a choice: to hold back or give in to the rage building within them.

But these are desperate times, and such times call for desperate measures, even if it means becoming the very monster you're fighting against.

story line.

one of the words most commonly mispronounced is "scourge". Look it up in a pronunciation dictionary.

Arboreal fantasy? um... yes please!

The plot twists hit you like a boxer! Blinding punch after blinding punch, until you're left on the floor laying in a puddle of your own fluids! I cannot recommend this enough! The story is gritty, brutal, and massively addicting! Book 3 can't get here soon enough!

The story moved along, very smoothly

You come to feel connection with all the characters and build your own grudges against them. They did very well at making you feel like you’re in the book I do like the series and I had fun and had fun listening to it

Great store and best ever narrator

Loved the story. Wasn’t slow but still took time to world build a bit. Reynolds is the best in the business for a reason !!

Predictable and overly reliant on unrealistic plot tropes

Overall disappointed with the story and the writing. Too reliant on outrageous and unbelievable tropes, and extremely predictable in the storytelling. (Everything was just about to work out until it was thwarted by the bad guys just at the last second)- happened so frequently in the book it became its own plot device. It’s just poor storytelling and happened so often in this one book alone, I struggled to finish the book as I set it down multiple times in frustration. Surely it gets better than this I thought? Surely the storytelling improves? Nope. Wish I hadn’t finished my listen. The sunk cost fallacy got me to finish the book, but I’m wishing I hadn’t.

I listen to a lot of fantasy/sci-fi, and rarely am so thoroughly disappointed by a novel. The voice acting by Tim is fantastic as always, but this book is a huge disappointment. One fantasy series I will not be finishing.
