About this listen

Cathy was six when the man next door killed his wife and himself. It was early morning, and she was playing outside when she heard the first shot.

And then another shot. And another.

The sounds echoed around the neighborhood like thunder. People came out of their houses to see what was happening. Later, she saw the blood and the bodies....

Now, the house is no longer vacant. Someone new has moved in. Something terrible is happening to the neighbors. And Cathy has a secret of her own....

Death Instinct

I enjoyed this one! David Stifel was a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Wow

I have listened to many Bentley Little, and this is true horror. This is not supernatural. It should be cautioned that this does use a word that is no longer acceptable. This book was written long before that, though. That is something to keep in mind.

Sure likes the R word.

I am a fan of Bentley. This is ok. Not the best though. Story with a little simplistic and relied heavily on a popular concept in 1992. I guess he watched Rain Man and said “Hey, what if a guy like that was a serial killer?”
As for the prolific use of the R Word….
I would cut him slack because it was 1992, but the main character at the beginning of the book identifies how it was not an appropriate word to use anymore…in 92…, nonetheless he decided to roll with it all the way through.

I guess if people are not bothered by that not much is changed in 30 years. It’s no reason to not listen to the book. Or is it. I have no idea. I did.

I liked it. very enjoyable

I've read other reviews. In today's society I know the word retard is not ok. However, the context, reason behind and the people using the word is a hell of a lot more believable than everyone, no matter age or upbringing using politically correct phrases. It was a decent book and I love the narrator. He does everything so well

Little and Stifel are a fantastic combo!

I am on a Bentley Little binge lately and I am a huge fan of Stifel’s performance of his work. The story was super weird and unexpected at every turn. The characters are enthralling and have genuine depth, even the ones that I didn’t like.

If Bentley little had a range of intensity then his books like The Store and The Handyman would be on the more chill end of the spectrum while this one is decidedly more gripping. There are a few parts that are beyond belief or impossible and I feel like the ending left me wanting more.

Overall this is a solid 4.5/5 for me and I would recommend it to anyone who likes horror/thrillers.

Wow! Just wow

This story was really good!! Kept me hooked from beginning all through to the very end. It was far better and way more intriguing than most murder mystery, thrillers. And of know, at least for me, it’s because of the horror genre! Which Bentley Little is just genius at! As far as horror is concerned though I’d have to say that his book Handyman is much more up that alley than this book. Although the types of murders done in this book are definitely horrific. And for the majority of this book I must say I couldn’t stand Al. Even still ALL of the characters were very well developed and just amazing for how they were meant to be! I thought the narrator did an excellent job indeed!! When I played the sample I wasn’t fond of the narrator but listening to the actual story I quickly changed my mind. He did great! All in all this was a great experience and I highly recommend this book!

**Their are some very explicit scenarios in this story that I would rate R+ Just fyi for parents**
