Publisher's summary

Elizabeth and Nathaniel Bonner have settled into their life together at the edge of the New-York wilderness in the winter of 1794. But soon after Elizabeth gives birth to healthy twins, Nathaniel learns that his father has been arrested in British Canada. Forced to leave Hidden Wolf Mountain to help his father in Montreal, Nathaniel himself is imprisoned and in danger of being hanged as a spy.

In a desperate bid to save her husband, Elizabeth bundles her infants and sets out through the snowy wilderness and across treacherous waterways on the dangerous trek to Canada. But she soon discovers that freeing her husband will take every ounce of her courage and inventiveness - and will threaten her with the loss of what she loves most: her children.

Torn apart, the Bonners must embark on yet another perilous voyage, this time all the way across the ocean to the heart of Scotland, where a destiny they could never have imagined awaits them....

Brilliant

The narrator makes the story come alive. Her range of voices is terrific. I have been eagerly waiting to listen to this series as I read most of the books many years ago. I enjoyed it then and am loving it now.

all is not lost

Again we are taken on a wonderful journey. The listener will find their self laughing out loud at times. Shouting along at others. Crying when you least expect it. I'm looking forward to the next part of the journey.

Historical Fiction

Love the continuing story of the Bonners. Mention of real places and events helps to see it all in your minds eye.

Exciting!

Exciting book full of plot twist. I love listening to the reader too. She is so talented that I often forget she is all the voices.

You can't wait to see what happens next!

As gold a family drama as I have ever read. If girls could read well written historical fiction that has been well researched they would love history.

Love, honour, betrayal, deep binding relationships!

So far I am totally engaged in this series and so look forward to book 3 and on to the last. The narrator is wonderful and it is a blessing to have her expertise throughout the series! I am of Scottish background, born in Nova Scotia, where I have many relatives and Scottish ancestors who arrived in the Boston area near the time of the Mayflower.
This story touches so many nerves, profound sorrow and great human friendship and love.

intricate story weaving.

I loved this series the first time I read it. it's been some years since and I'm just as taken by the story telling as before. The narrator was wonderful and truly brings the characters to life, though not exactly as I have become accustomed to them in my own mind. Her performance was spectacular.

Intense

I could not put it down! I found myself intensely drawn into Elizabeth's plight; for both Nathaniel and her twin babies and their perils far from Lake in the Clouds. I can't wait to start the next in the series!
