About this listen

The Great Fire has reduced London to smoldering embers. From the ashes, thief taker Charlie Tuesday is drawn to investigate a string of strange murders. Mutilated corpses are washing up at Deptford, each marked with a dire astrological prediction. But only London's best crime-solver realizes the killer's deadly offerings will soon unleash a devastating force on England.

With the help of Lily Boswell, a gypsy street-girl with a knife and a grudge, Charlie must find the killer and put a stop to the murders. And by doing so, the Thief Taker will find the man whose terrible destiny is entwined with his, their fates written in the dark stars...

A good story -but

I wish the author would add a bit of humor from the characters. It gets a bit too grim.

His best story yet!

I got hooked with The Thief Taker (the first in series) and was delighted to discover two more books waiting. I listened to them straight through for an entire week! This one completely surprised me multiple times at the end. After reading all three stories, I have a much greater understanding of English history and the dawn of scientific inventions which shaped social understanding during the reign of King Charles (1666.)

Charles II ruled in desperate times!

Author Catherine Quinn completes her Charlie Tuesday/Thief Taker historical mystery/thriller series with Dark Stars. The novel starts where Fire Catcher ends in the year 1666 after the great London fire with London in ashes. Thieves and murderers rule the time of total chaos. Charlie tries to restore order with the help of his unlikely co-protagonist street girl Lily Boswell. If you liked The Thief Taker and Fire Catcher you will like this suspense mystery/thriller even more. Steve West does a nice job of narration, but Napoleon Ryan was even better in the first two series novels.

Those with interest in English history are the target audience for this series, but others should also like it.

better narrator

Still with wooden conversations, especially from the female lead. Story more intricate and satisfying than the previous two.

dark star

The only reason I listened to this long, boring story was the incredible voice and performance of Steve West. Steve West was brilliant and did a fantastic job of Making the story interesting.

I got bored

I didn't actually pay attention to most of this story out of boredom. I like the voice of the narrator except for the female voices and it was too slow. I sped it up to 1.25 and it was better.
