Publisher's summary
What would happen if you chose yourself?
So often, women are taught to put others first. We are conditioned to focus on the needs of others rather than prioritizing ourselves and we become good at it. Choosing others becomes so central to our way of being that we can build big, busy lives without ever stopping to wonder: what if I chose me?
In her mid-forties, Jeanie Duncan was a card-carrying member of the put others first club. Wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend she was surrounded by people she loved and who loved her. From the outside, it was a perfect life. But over the course of a profound period of unraveling and self-realization, she discovered that she had lost herself somewhere along the way.
Choosing Me: The Journey Home to My True Self is the achingly personal and yet stunningly universal story of one woman's journey to discovering her truth and finding the courage to live it. At once a coming-out story that uplifts and inspires and a searing exploration of mother-daughter relationships, Choosing Me is a refreshing and powerful invitation to embrace love, live fully, and never compromise your truth. Additionally, enjoy an exclusive bonus interview with the author in the audiobook!

Story
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

At least that's what I tell myself when I witness the same hot guy commit mass murder three times in a few days. I'm either the luckiest mute boy ever or possibly the unluckiest. Who knows, maybe him kidnapping me will turn into the greatest love story ever told? Hey, it could happen! You never know how these things will turn out. I happen to believe in love and soulmates, and if nothing else, Arlington Fox doesn't treat my disability like a nuisance.

Honest and Courageous
My first experience with Choosing Me was via reading Jeanie Duncan's book. I found her book to be honest and heart warming. As a reader, I was invited in to so many pivotal experiences that had a great impact on the author's life. Then, listening to the narrated edition, it's a leveled-up experience. Having the author's voice accompany her words makes it feel like you're in the room having a conversation with a friend, who is sharing deeply about hard things.

An inspiring authentic journey!
Some books can really touch your core…this is one of those books for me. Jeanie is an open book with her journey of feeling and moving through fear, trauma, grief, AND love! I applaud her vulnerability and courage in showing her authenticity to the world. I also love how she includes prompts to help us, the readers, to dig deeper into our own journey. Thank you, Jeanie, for your dedication to inspiring more authentic human beings in our world!!!

Choosing You
Jeanie Duncan offers an intimate, authentic, and deeply meaningful account of her life and the choices that she has been brave enough to make in order to live the life she is meant to have. So much of this book resonated with me…in so many different ways. While I am a strait woman who has chosen to stay with my husband (of going on 28 years), Jeanie's search to find her voice, make choices that are best for her, and to be truly congruent is similar to my own. Learning as an adult to break free of the expectations and judgements of our families to live the life that WE choose is not easy. This book is truly a gift. It is also refreshing to find a coach who is willing to be so vulnerable about her own struggles, decisions, and choices. I listened to this book on Audible and found hearing Jeanie's voice added meaning and vibrancy to the written word. I was moved so much that I reached out to Jeanie and thanked her for writing "Choosing Me". I am delighted to know that she has more to give and will anxiously await her next book!

So Close and Personal
Jeanie Duncan’s audio book is a must-listen for anyone who aspires to a more fulfilling life. She shares the anguish and courage of emerging from her comfort zone to explore and embrace her most authentic self. Her story, in her own voice, is so compelling. It’s a heart-thumping love story - of her own self and of her partnership with Lyn. Add to that the insights that apply to all of us and the questions at the end of each chapter that are a guide to stepping out of fear into your own the personal journey. She shows me that it's never too late to define and refine my path forward.

Empowering and inspirational!
Jeanie Duncan’s first book (and already ready for her second!) will take the active listener on quite the journey. She adeptly weaves thought-provoking questions for you, the listener, into her own story of transformation to finding her truest and most authentic self. Her story is unique, but it is a story that she then leads one to consider the ways in which they have conformed to societal and familial norms. We can all grow and change, with the right tools. And Jeanie Duncan’s book, Choosing Me is worth a read or a listen, perhaps several, for guidance to “Choosing Me”.

Powerful and inspiring!
Jeanie Duncan shares her personal journey to self-discovery in such a relatable way that you find yourself in her story. Her narration is soothing and comforting so that you feel as if you are talking with a good friend. I love the thought-provoking questions she poses to us after each chapter and I was incredibly inspired by her experience. Her vivid descriptions of people and situations put you ‘there’ and make her story even more powerful. I highly recommend this book!
