Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

There’s something out there: A juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic - unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it. Revan: Hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians - and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that’s left are nightmares - and deep, abiding fear.

Story
They hunt us. They bomb our worlds for target practice. A star cluster in the constellation of Orion rotates once every 1,000 years. Those who rule there have an ancient tradition: When each cycle ends, they train their fleets by spilling the blood of lesser beings. The enemy fleets are coming again. In response, the Rebel Worlds gather their starships to face the terrifying threat, and this time humanity is asked to stand with them. The last time they considered Earth, Vikings in longboats were raiding English coastlines. Today, we're less primitive. Today, we're a target.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

In Christopher Moore's ingenious debut novel, we meet one of the most memorably mismatched pairs in the annals of literature. The good-looking one is one-hundred-year-old ex-seminarian and "roads" scholar Travis O'Hearn. The green one is Catch, a demon with a nasty habit of eating most of the people he meets.

The Hundred Worlds have withstood invasion by the relentless Hok for decades. The human worlds are strong, but the Hok have the resources of a thousand planets behind them, and their fleets attack in endless waves. The long war has transformed the Hundred Worlds into heavily fortified star systems. Their economies are geared for military output, and they raise specialized soldiers to save our species. Assault Captain Derek Straker is one such man among many.

Dudley DoRight/Captain Kirk
Creating species with impunity, author Milo James Fowler exercises his considerable flare for snark and satire as he wittily skewers Bullwinkle's pal Dudley while providing "magic" technologies borrowed heavily from Star Trek (and with nods to any number of other influences). As I listened to narrator E.M. Carberry gleefully provide full pomp and circumstance (as well as clever voicings for the various aliens encountered) I enjoyed a few full belly laughs following Captain Quasar blundering his way across the universe, leaving mostly carnage in his wake.

Quasar
This was a fun with lots of wit and banter. It also was a little to juvenile for my taste.

Fun SciFi spoof
In other hands, this might have been nothing but a poorly written Star Trek wannabe. What we have instead is a well crafted, deliberately over the top parody of that show, complete with knowing winks at a number of traditional—if sometimes nonsensical—sci-fi tropes. All in all, a fun romp.

Very Galaxy Trek great for fans of that show.
Yes this story reads like an episode of that show. You know the show, where an overly confident Captain tries to make moral and logical choices but just blows everything up. That show.
Captain Quasar is in charge of the Effervescent Magnitude, a star ship on a simple mission. So why does everything keep getting complicated?
If you like Star Trek or similar shows then you will enjoy the adventures of Captain Quasar as he and his crew try to escape from bounty hunters and end up being recruited into an interplanetary war. Fast paced and well plotted, this story will keep you engaged like a good TV show.
Especially when read by E.M. Carberry. He reads, actively and in an over the top manner. He also does different voices for the characters. if you really can't watch TV, this really is the next best thing.

Adventure abounds
The story begins with blunders from within. At each turn of events, the Captain steps into a bigger mess, but will it ever end. With the threat of death looms ever before him and around each nook and turn on alien turf, he is bound to resolve the situation. With the approaching dreadful alien spiders and this daring alien queen, he's got his hands full. Thankfully, the enemy of my enemy becomes the catylist for joined forces that has never been considered in many lifetimes. But what will he do when it is over and the smoke clears? Will he have to face this obstinant queen who is beginning to take a liking to him, but who repulses every fiber of his soul? You will have to read the story to find the answer from an unlikely source.
The story is fun and exciting as I listened as each chapter unfolded. You will too. Nice work indeed.

Fun sci-fi!
Captain Bartholomew Quasar:The Bounty Hunters from Arachnxx Three by Milo James Fowler and narrated by E.M. Cranberry is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This book is full of total goof balls running around in space. I am glad Earth doesn't depend on them. It's a short book but a very clever one with fun characters and situations, witty dialogue, and unique plot. Definitely worth the listen! I enjoyed the craziness!
The narrator was pretty good too!

A funny Star Trek like space farce
Captain Bartholomew Quasar is a funny space farce reminiscent of shows like Galaxy Quest and the Orville. The story is entertaining with interesting characters including a variety of alien species.
Audio is really the way to go with this book- the narrator fits the story perfectly.
I received a copy of this audio book as a gift. This is my honest and voluntary review.

fun distraction
Needs a three eyed person on the cover because I keep forgetting what it's about. entertaining but too short to to develop much more than a single Star Trek episode.
