Publisher's summary

Liam:

That feeling you get skating across the ice, legs burning, adrenaline pumping. It’s unmatched. Much like my current stats.

Hockey has always been my sole focus, getting to the playoffs, winning the Stanley Cup—that’s my number one goal.

I won’t let the fact that I’ve just been traded to a new team derail my future. Nor will the daughter of the so-called King of Canada, aka my new boss. Aliyah, the gorgeous, feisty brunette who’s just been assigned as my official “babysitter.”

Although, when you're trapped in a room with a temptation like her, there’s only so much restraint one man can have.

I probably should have listened to the rumors about the owner of the Vancouver Knights being Canada’s most ruthless and feared mob boss. Because when he finds out what I’ve done with his daughter, it’s not just my career on the chopping block.

It’s my neck. Both, I’m willing to risk. For her. To save her.

Aliyah:

When your whole life is mapped out for you, choices aren’t a freedom you’re granted.

You do whatever it is you’re told to do.

So, when my father tells me he needs me to watch over one of his new recruits, even though spending all of my free time with a cocky-ass hockey player is the last thing I want to be doing, I agree.

Why?

Because nobody says no to Jacob Monroe and lives to tell the tale. Not even me.

I mean, how hard can it be? It’s one guy. A hockey player. Liam King. An athlete with a physique carved out of stone, and a smirk that not only melts my panties off, but sets my whole body on fire.

An inferno I can’t help but give in to and a desire I can’t help but feed.

He’s not part of the plan. He’s temporary. Dropping in and passing by. I just need to get my heart to understand that I can’t keep him.

No matter how much I might want to.

the dual POV was excellent and so engaging

If you love dark, intense sports romances, Break Out by Kylie Kent is a must-read! This book grabbed me from the start with its mix of hockey action, forbidden romance, and the looming threat of the criminal underworld. It’s an emotional ride that kept me hooked! 🎢

Liam, our brooding hero, is laser-focused on winning the Stanley Cup. But when Aliyah, the daughter of a ruthless mob boss, is assigned to keep an eye on him, everything changes. The chemistry between them is off the charts, and it’s clear that resisting each other is impossible. Their connection deepens with every interaction, and the tension between them is palpable—🔥!

The stakes are high, with Liam risking not just his career, but his life, for Aliyah. The looming threat of her father adds a dangerous edge that kept my heart racing. 😱

Both characters face intense inner conflicts—Liam’s torn between his love for hockey and his growing feelings for Aliyah, while Aliyah struggles to find her own path despite her father’s control. There’s a powerful moment where she stands up to him, and I was cheering her on! 💪

Though there were some small pacing issues that slowed the story down a bit, the intense chemistry, suspense, and emotional depth more than made up for it. Break Out is a thrilling, emotional sports romance that delivers on every level. Kylie Kent has definitely scored with this one! 🏒✨

Audiobook Note: Narrated by Angelina Rocca and Tim Paige, the audiobook experience was fantastic. Both narrators encapsulated the characters perfectly, bringing Liam and Aliyah to life in a way that made the dual POV even more engaging. I absolutely loved the narration—A+++! 🎧👏

the perfect amount of arrogance and alpha dominance

This is Book 1 in the standalone/interconnected Vancouver Knight series by @
Aliyah is the daughter of the criminal underground leader. She is also the youngest of 4 kids with three older brothers. She was asked by her father to babysit the newest hockey player he contracted for his team. He has been up to a lot of bad press by being caught with puck bunnies and drugs. Her brothers are furious because they are overprotective of her. She agrees to do it though because she doesn't want to let her father down. She has a lot of trauma that absolutely SHATTERED my heart.

Liam King is an amazing hockey player but has zero impluse control. He got kicked off his last team for punching one of his coaches and then being caught by the media with numerous puck bunnies and drugs. His mother and coach betrayed him and almost ruined his life. Luckily the owner of Vancouver Knights wanted him to get them the cup. He works so hard and follows the rules that Aliyah gives him. He is also deathly afraid of spiders 🤣 Same though. Him working with the kids definitely sealed my love for him.

Aliyah wants to prove to her dad that she can handle the job. It becomes obvious to her she is in over her head to her reaction to Liam and all of his flirting. They will have to overcome her family, her insecurities and "The Business events".

This story is a great mix of spice, love, growth and support. My heart HURT when we heard both of their childhoods. Love always prevails. I am so excited for the next book!

Audio itself:
Liams voice had the perfect amount of arrogance and alpha dominance to it that I absolutely loved 😍 Where as Aliyah had the perfect resting voice of not caring with a touch of bad a**ness to it. She was confident when needed and insecure when she slipped. It was perfect. Her tone also didnt drive me insane it was really nice to listen to it. I absolutely love when audiobooks are duets so they read at the same time for their gender characters. They worked so great together and I swear my heart stopped at his sexy voice and words.
My only slight complaint was that there were certain moments where I felt like their tone should have changed but it didn't. But it wasn't that often that it happened and 99% of it was absolutely perfection. I cant wait to listen to it again and again!

Looking for your next smexy hockey romance!

Aliyah is a feisty one. I love her a lot. The way that she kept Liam on his toes was funny. Yet, Liam working for Aliyah made him show just how much he loved her. He would walk through fire for her or at least stand up to her brother and father. Every time that these two got together, it was HOT! They would melt the ice with their chemistry.

Looking for your next smexy hockey romance! This is the book you need. Yet, I suggest listening to the audio version. The narrators Angelina Rocca and Tim Paige did an amazing job with the audio book. Their voices are clear and brought the story to life. I would listen to them both for a long time. In fact, I will be checking out more audio books read by them.
