About this listen

Avery Shaw thinks things are bumping right along—her ongoing war with the ducks invading her pool notwithstanding—but she’s quickly disavowed of that notion when her arch nemesis Tad Ludington’s task force invades her backyard and arrests her cousin Mario on suspicion of serial murder.
Mario has been in trouble before—not of his making—but this time the deck seems to be stacked against him…right up until Avery realizes that Tad is bringing charges with zero proof. He can’t even prove that women are dead.
When Avery digs in, determined to make him look like an idiot, she discovers an unfortunate problem. There is a serial killer on the loose…and no bodies have yet been discovered. So Tad is on to something, and there’s nothing Avery wants more than to take his prize from him.
That means partnering with Sheriff Jake Farrell, who demands to be in control just as often as Avery. Together, they’re going to butt heads…and figure out that there really is a monster on the loose in Macomb County.
Avery is working hard, but there are others working against her. Between Tad, a local attorney out for blood, her own co-workers, and the history of the women themselves, she’s got her hands full.
Giving up isn’t an option in Avery’s world.
There’s one thing Avery Shaw doesn’t do. Lose. How is she going to win this time?

Excellent Addition to the Series

I love Avery Shaw and her ego. That gruff exterior hides a heart that yearns for justice in this world. Both hilarious and frightening, Ms Lee’s latest is an excellent listen.

As good as this series is, I think this might have been the best one. The tiny dicks made me laugh every time. Wonderful writing and delightful narration. A can’t miss book.

Amazing as always!

I have always been a fan of paranormal cozy mysteries and I discovered Amanda M Lee by starting with Moonstone Bay. I then moved on to all of the other series that had crossovers with Moonstone Bay. I always hesitated to read Avery books because of the lack of paranormal elements but I have to say - I just adore her. Amanda M Lees is my favorite author and I have not read a single series of hers that I don’t love. As an avid reader / listener, I very much appreciate that she publishes a schedule of release dates and actually sticks to it. That’s so important to me as someone with a Perry type A personality. These are my escape; my happy place and I need them to be there when they’re supposed to be. I can’t say enough good things about her books, her writing, etc. The snark is hilarious, the quirkiness of the characters is endearing and I just really look forward to every new book in each series. For 2024, she was my top author in Audible and Kindle and as much as I read, that speaks volumes. If you’re on the fence, go for it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. And thank you, Amanda, for providing me with my little bit of escapism from the craziness of the real world each month.
