About this listen

Maya Davis is done hiding. It's left her empty and out of touch with her family. Now she's a young woman on a mission: getting rid of residual feelings for her former best friend from college. Her plan is to put herself through a wringer by being in Nina's upcoming wedding and burning away whatever emotions are left, so she can start anew. Her plan, however, has big holes, and everything she's been feeling rushes through and leaves her thinking that this was a bad idea.

Nina Sterling is a work in progress, torn between being two very different things-the person others expect her to be and who she wants to become. For the past couple of years, it's been easier to give in to her demanding, steamroller of a mother and her pleasant but controlling fiance, but with Maya's return for a lengthy stay in town, and encouragement from Nina's hilarious cousin, seeds of rebellion are sown.

As Maya and Nina try to patch up the past and get closer, old sparks rekindle, and as they both grow into who they are meant to be, those sparks might just become a fire.

“Denial” is more than a river in Egypt!

This is a story that starts with delayed gratification and the embers of a fire that are still strong enough to spark a new connection. Straight people don't spend a great deal of time dealing with questions about who they are in relationship to who they love. Likely all relationships could benefit from more introspection, but when you may be choosing the wrong person for all the wrong reasons, it’s time to get a grip! Thankfully our heroines are brave and smart women! The families of each romantic partner add so much to the story- some funny and thoughtful, some bigoted and homophobic, The narration is good for the supporting cast though there was not a lot of difference between our leading women, but still it was good overall. One of the things I loved most about the story is the way our romantic partners open up to each other while being exercising good judgment… or perhaps it is foreplay designed to make the consumation and spicy elements of their relationship all the sweeter!

Top Notch

I’ve read the printed format of this one more than once and enjoyed it very much, and while I’m usually pretty particular about narrators I felt that Wesleigh Siobhan did an excellent job with it.

Wouldn’t recommend

I had high hopes for this book but It was very forced with all the characters. The relationship between the two friends had no spark no back story really except for one night. The whole book consists of going in circles and “character 1 said” and “character 2 said”
Narration was mediocre I had a hard time following who was who unless it was always told who said it which got old.

I loved it

I loved the story and how she became her own woman. I love hearing personal growth. Did a 5 star job and the narrator loved her voice and her accent

the story line

I really liked the family bond between the brothers n sister. The kitchen being everyone favorite place was so silly.

Hilarious and heart-felt

This story will speak to anyone who has ever fallen in love with their straight best friend.
Maya decides to accept Nina’s offer to be part of her wedding b/c she thinks it will finally kill the residual feelings she has long-held for Nina. This is a great story about how well that plan works out :D (Side note: This book is narrated perfectly by Wesleigh Siobhan).

Enjoyable

The narrator seemed inexperienced but promising with a few more narrations under her belt. Would have been better with two different narrators to do the voices but overall was a good listen.

Brava!

This was a really intriguing story! I think I would’ve probably enjoyed it a bit more had I read it versus listened to it; however, that’s only because it being a same sex story made it difficult to follow Wesleigh’s narration. That said, I really appreciate the story and found it very entertaining! Hats off to the writer! 😊

Great story

Denial, family, angst, second chances, coming out, acceptance. A well rounded sapphic story with black characters.
