About this listen

The Event Group has a new mission when relics of the fabled Philadelphia Experiment surface in the latest thrilling hit from New York Times best-selling author David Golemon.

The Soviet battle cruiser Simbirsk, which launched in June 1940 and was reported sunk in 1944 with the loss of all hands, is still sailing the open sea. January of 2017: American Los Angeles class submarine USS Houston is tracking a surface target that is not listed as part of the Russian navy's response to the NATO maneuvers. What they find will set in motion the answers to one of the great mysteries of World War II. With the Russian navy bearing down on the Houston and international tensions running high, the United States Navy declares the Soviet-era derelict legal salvage under international law. With the world's most powerful navies going toe-to-toe in the North Atlantic, the president of the United States calls upon the one organization that has a chance to figure out why this ship is in this time, in this place - Department 5656, also known as the Event Group. When the group arrives, they are confronted by three warships of the Russian navy who have come to claim Russian property. The two groups meet and soon discover that the ancient battle cruiser is not a derelict at all but fully functional, with a mysterious apparatus that sent the original crew to their deaths. In the midst of their warfare in the tossing seas, both navies are sent into a realm of unimaginable terror - an alternate world of water, ice, and death.

Only gets better!

OK I am so loving this series I am SO sad that I am almost done with it. I have one book left in the series BUT I stalked the author's page and there is a NEW ONE coming out THIS YEAR! I am so excited. Discovering this series is like finding a TV series that you watch religiously every. single. week!!! I don't have one of those. I am not much of a tv fan. I HATE COMMERCIALS! Books do not have commercials. TV series only give you one world. Books give you as many worlds as you can possible read about. I would LOVE to personally thank author David L Golemon for this amazing series. I have a funny feeling I will be listening to these books more than once. They really truly are THAT GOOD!

Master Chief had a quote in this book that made me actually laugh out loud belly laugh. It had something to to with a face. That is all I am going to say because I do not post spoilers. This books was great!!

Great story terrible dubbing

I have enjoyed all of the Event Group’s adventures and look forward to the next one.
That said, the production on this one needs help. The overdubbing of the sections mentioning the name of the Russian Captain is VERY distracting.
Don’t let that stop you from a fun ride.

Well.......

Not bad. I must admit this book is an improvement over the last one. There are aspects to these stories involving time travel and/or dimensional travel that seem to fall to the way side. Granted the idea is for the action/adventure aspect of the story, but time could be spent more into the “other world”. Give people a greater view into these places and people that have been created. Could make the story more interesting.

Opens a new chapter.

Enjoyed the book very much, interesting storyline as I have read and watched stories such as the Philadelphia Experiment and the Final Countdown. So this was especially interesting to me. Great job by the author opening a new chapter by creating the conflict with the Russians. And I always enjoy Poe’s narration. Now on to the Supernaturals.

As Good as Cussler's Dirk Pitt

Completing this latest Event Group adventure, I now enter that frustrating period of "waiting for the next one...?"

While each adventure is self-contained, knowing the characters as they develop adds so much. I strongly suggest reading in chronological order.

Easiest comparison of Golemon's Event Group led by Col. Jack Collins is Clive Cussler's original NUMA Files with Dirk Pitt. Yes, such stories do take on an easily detected formula... SO WHAT! ... OK, Maybe Cussler's Oregon Files too w/ Juan Cabrillo. Heck.... I liked'ed all.

Golemon writing breaks the universe

I would have given this 5 stars if not for the audio problems threw out the book where sometimes it sounded great but start to sound muffled and in early chs the narrator when he said the name of ships he made them sound really loud and when he spoke in the third person perspective he sounded abit quiet. Then there was the parts in the story with with how the authour didn't explain how Russians trained the pirates, he also could have used sound effects for explosions but used the word version for them that got annoying, and finally he didn't give the humanoids of that other world any sound to go with there languages that it made fill like the author was being lazy instead of giving the read abigger expression of there world to the listener.

Another Great Book in the Series

Great story and continuation/development in the series. Golemon really knows how to write so that I feel like I am in the middle of it. Richard Poe does an outstanding job of performing, if you will allow the term
