Publisher's summary

Declan Sinclair is a Highlander who believes his dreams never lie. When he spots Caya at a public house, he knows instantly she is the woman in his dreams - his future wife. Though her brother had promised never to gamble again, he engages Declan in a card game - and the prize is the lovely Caya.

Caya Pendarvis has no time for childish things like dreams or fairy tales or love. She's the sacrificial lamb on her way to the far north of Scotland to wed a wealthy merchant in exchange for settling her brother's gambling debts.

Winning at cards is one of the many things Declan Sinclair does well. Unfortunately, the ability to court a woman - a talent he lacks - is the only skill he desperately needs to win Caya's heart.

Sweet story

This is is a sweet love story & well told. The characters are solid and well developed, with good humor and mutual affection. The level of sexual tension is enjoyable and at just the right level.

I can’t give it 5 stars as on occasion there is something tedious out it all that I can’t quite put my finger on. Maybe it’s the main characters internal dialogues rife with cognitive distortions, especially the frequent jumping to foolish wrong conclusions. It gets a little painful to listen to. Still, I’m ready to listen to the next book in the series as the characters draw me in and I am without a doubt a fan of this highland family.

Honorable Highlanders

I really enjoyed this book, a couple times I got frustrated with the main female character being so naïve and unsure. Love the strong men in the story.

Good story. Stupid characters

The story was interesting and well written. Clearly the author was inspired by Pride and Prejudice. The narration was perfect.
That being said, I have never read anything with such stupid main characters. Declan has natural good sense, but is naive in interacting with women. He misses the key points to address in conversations. He’s not a great communicator. Caya is naive to the point of stupidity. She doesn’t seem to think for herself most of the time and when she does she applies what knowledge she has poorly more often than not.

Entertaining plot but it’s long winded

Pros: The plot is interesting, and the characters are well developed. I appreciated that “winning” the heroine in a card game was challenged by certain characters and the morality of that was questioned. There are a few good twists that held my interest.

Cons: The story could do with less internal monologues and less insecurity from the main characters. As other reviews stated, the story starts very slow and I almost gave up more than once. I also prefer more steam; this story was maybe a 2 out of 5.
