About this listen

Humans cannot become Vampires. Elisavet Katsaros defies this belief when she wakes up in a hospital as a Sanguinarian, or human born vampire. She is the first of her kind in over three hundred years. The transformation was an accident, but there is no going back now. Questions surround Elisavet. Why her? How did it happen? Who is responsible? Above all else, what will the ramifications be for the rest of the World in Shadows? To find peace, she will look for the answers to these questions and more. In digging for the truth, Elisavet uncovers long-buried secrets and the keys to unraveling a murder. With the help of the Vampire Regis, Manias Artorias, she will attempt to right the wrongs of others and start a new chapter in history. Working side by side, powerful emotions flare. Manias finds himself wanting to claim her for his own despite the consequences. She yearns to capture his heart, to be more than just another vampire under his rule. To have a chance they must defy traditions, put their love on the line and risk it all.©2015 BRIDGET JACKSON (P)2017 BRIDGET JACKSON Fantasy Paranormal Paranormal Romance Romance Fiction Vampire Heartfelt

It was ok

Just a bit too much of a marysue. The protagonist was very bland and written in a way that the author is trying to force you to like her. Literally everyone in the book took one look at her and decided they were going to bend over backwards to help her for no reason. I was also a bit tired of the woe is me. It was constant. That’s why I try to stay clear of book with the main character is a human. I rather them be experienced in what they are and not be constantly questioning it. That’s a trope very common in the YA genre which is also do not like. I’m finding it very hard to find a decent book lately, which is why I picked this up. I’m also not a fan of multiple narrators, especially when it all revolves around the main character. Being in their minds added absolutely nothing to the story. It was mainly “this poor girl I’ll protect her! She’s so beautiful!”.

The narrator was pretty stiff and there were so many instances that I thought the recording cut out but that’s the way she narrates. It’s very sharp on the ears. Maybe if there was a different narrator I’d be able to finish it but who knows.

Great Cast of Characters

Bradetta Vines does a great job of adding lots of color and life to the huge and varied cast of characters. From the old, kind human security guard to ancient Roman vampires and beyond that it made the book come alive and established a complex story line in a very interesting world. It was sometimes a challenge to keep up with the different worlds and simultaneous plots, but each chapter is introduced with which characters’ POV we are following which did a lot to help keep track of everyone. Would definitely recommend! Very fun book to listen to.
