Acerca de esta escucha

Ambitious college student Daniel Walker has his world turned upside down when he begins having prophetic dreams about the judgment coming upon America. Through one of his dreams, Daniel learns of an imminent threat of an EMP attack that will wipe out America's electric grid and all computerized devices, sending the country into a technological dark age. Living in a nation where all life-sustaining systems of support are completely dependent on electricity and computers, the odds for survival are dismal. Municipal water services, retail food distribution, police, fire, EMS, and all emergency services will come to a screeching halt. If he wants to live through the most catastrophic period in American history, Daniel will have to race against time to get prepared before the lights go out.

If you could sum up Behold, Darkness and Sorrow in three words, what would they be?

Entertaining, forewarning, preparedness

What was one of the most memorable moments of Behold, Darkness and Sorrow?

The moment the lights went out and the recognition of the momentousness of the moment sinks in.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Pierce – was your favorite?

I like Mr. Pierce's performance on all the characters, but particularly Daniel.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, it made me turn a critical eye to my own actions, attitudes, faith and preparedness.

Any additional comments?

Excellent listen, very interested in reading/listening to the next book in the series.

Very nicely done story of life after an EMP

I hope the narator is under contract to do all the books in the series . His voice really went with the dialogue and the characters in the story. I also liked the fact that every detail of the firearms were center story. Too many books describe to much every time a weapon comes into play in the story. Say it was a shotgun and move on. I plan on recommending this book to others.

Great book and a great story.

OK, I don't want to be harsh. I like Mark Goodwin books. However, the more audiobooks of his that I listen to the more I see the formulaic approach he uses to create his now third miniseries. Don't get me wrong, they all have their merits, but they all have certain similarities that have me wanting to search out new and different authors before returning and starting a series like this. Thankfully, perhaps, this genre is now infused with a wide range of talent to pick from, though finding it may take some trial and error since everyone seems to support their favorite authors and the reviews sometime seem too disingenuous.

As a Christian I'm glad that some Christian authors have found their niche in this genre, but that in and of itself doesn't guarantee well written fiction or adequate survival instruction. In my opinion, Mark Goodwin is at his best when he's developing a backdrop to his stories and describing the world through real current events. He tends to get somewhat bogged down in detail with his main characters and their immediate circumstances. His stories often ebb and flow between mundane issues and fast paced action and the momentum isn't consistent.

That being said, his books (this one included) is fairly well written and offers insightful Biblical references that describe a very real threat. Character development was good though somewhat stereotypical to this genre. There wasn't much new in the way of preparedness except to show how unprepared the main characters were. Overall and enjoyable but somewhat forgettable story.

More of the Same

You reviewers who don't like the preaching in this author's novels might try reading the synopses before buying. You also miss his main theme which is fallen man will fall and only be redeemed by faith. he clearly points out the character of people who we might have to ally withhold his tales of breakdown come true. The preachy people in his books and in a real crisis are the ones to be trusted. Good luck siding with anyone else.

Preaching Is The Point

I loved the story of this book. I have listened to M. Goodwin's other two novels several times. This one was the best I think. The reason I like it so much: it build up the ought the prep phase, stays on the Christian subject and didn't phase in too much conspiracy stuff. Either on or the other is great but both together confuses the story. I loved it and want the other out now.

Best book yet!

I finally found a writer that can write a good story and use intelligence to make his point without using four letter word. Kevin Pearce does his usual great job. looking forward to the next book.

Finally a book with zero swear words.

Loved how detailed. Made it seem alot closer to a true reality. The narrator is also really good. He gives the story that homely, down to earth feel. Really gives it the perspective of this type of crisis from an average, everyday Joe

Pretty close to the truth!

The story is well written and leaves you wondering where it will go next. It doesn't hurt that Kevin Pierce is an amazing narrator. If you find Christianity or ones views of Chritianity offensive, this book might not be your cup of tea. However, if you consider yourself open minded, prepare to have your mind blown!

Epic
