About this listen

Donna Jacobs, a seasoned clinical psychologist, shares her compelling therapeutic model to teach us how to reposition ourselves in difficult situations and relationships. This book guides us as we work towards becoming our best selves, offering tools for change and a six-step healing process.

Becoming Your Best Self teaches Donna’s model in accessible language, using stories from case studies so the listener is left with the tools needed to practice the model. Through her teaching, the listener discovers that – before we can negotiate our challenging situations – we need to take care of ourselves by understanding deeply our starting places, healing our own wounds, and learning to nudge our perspectives into healthier positions.

This book comes at a critical time where statistical and anecdotal data demonstrate how deeply people struggle in today’s world. Anxiety is at a record high, particularly impacting our young people; masculinity is under fire as it attempts to redefine itself against a backdrop of hyper masculine media messaging; relationships struggle under societal pressures; and a combination of economic stresses and consumer pressure impact our pocketbooks. Donna’s book puts the tools for change into our hands. Her model shows us that what we are looking for, we already possess – the means to work towards becoming a better version of ourselves.

This book is a must listen for anyone looking to create positive change in their life.

First Audiobook

As the first audiobook I've listened to, Ms.Jacobs sets a high bar in terms of clarity, articulation, and clear structure. That said, it presents a well organized set of TA expanded theories linked to clinical applications. The latter are punctuated by multiple case studies which take the reader through a clear understanding of the treatment process. Her self-disclosure and occasional atypical comments add to the appeal of this book which I highly recommend for both clinicians and patients.

Insightful, informative and helpful

This book has helped me both in my own private practice as a therapist as well as a 73 year old who continues to utilize the skills outlined in Donna's book. Bravo!

Self-help taken seriously

A very clear - and despite its length - succinct guide to the self-work required to develop into the person one would want to be. This is not the typical "quick cure by dinner" self-help book. The work isn't made to sound easy; and the insights and advice are grounded in the author's own personal and extensive professional experience.
