About this listen

He possesses me, controls me, pushes me to the edge...and I keep coming back for more.

Daniel Collins. Single Dad. My neighbor. He's the rudest man I've ever met.

Cold. Arrogant. Reclusive. He's so volatile everyone calls him the Brute.

I should stay away from him...but the heart wants what it wants. I see what he's trying to hide...see past his hidden pain...see the dark past threatening to destroy him.

When we touch, he unravels me, and the oceans set alight. But play with fire, and you will get burned. A fragile heart can easily be broken again.

A new stand-alone contemporary romance from award-winning international best-selling author SC Daiko. A love story with plenty of heat and angst.

5 Hot & Steamy Stars!

This story has it all. Suspense, action, humour and romance.

Brute is a intriguing, captivating story, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It will definitely grab your attention, and hold it until the end.

I loved the book and the audio book took it one step further. The narrators did a great job bringing the story and characters to life. I think Hugo Wylde especially, was spot on with his accents, and did a wonderful job portraying Daniel, as well as other characters .

I highly recommend this audio book to anyone who loves mafia themed and slow burn romances.

steamy

Overall I once again have to rave about the writing skills of this author. I thought this was a great and sexy story that kept me so entertained and wanting more. The chemistry between the two characters was obvious with words and in some scenes it was almost like you were watching not just listening. The narrator did an interesting thing again with his voice changing tone and expression within all the scenes. I am excited to read and listen to the next book by SC Daiko. I am a fan.

sweet and Spicy

This was a sweet romance with a bit of action added in to spice it up a bit. I enjoyed listening to Hugo and Hannah give voice to these characters. I wouldn't have really called Daniel a brute, but more stand offish and private. Either way this was a great listen and I really enjoyed their romance.

Second chance romance with a sexy brute

First let me say that this book was a really good second chance romance. Daniel, aka Brute, and Catrin were neighbors. Daniel was a broken recluse who kept people away for the safety of his son after his wife was killed. Catrin, her daughter, and their dog lived next door. The dog was really funny. He kept sticking up the room with his noxious farts. Initially Daniel treated Catrin horribly. He was terribly rude to her. Catrin slowly broke down those walls. Both lost their spouses around three years prior. This book is not full-on mafia romance but the mafia is involved. There is romance and suspense. Eventually things really heat up between Daniel and Catrin.

Hugo did an excellent job with the narration. Hannah was OK. Hugo sounds like a sexy brooding brute. When Daniel finally falls for Catrin, he falls hard. But things happen and their children are kidnapped by someone close to Daniel. Love the ending! I was given this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another home run !!!

Oh how I love SC Daiko and her captivating writing style. What could possibly make it better? It being read by two narrators with accents that make the emotions richer and the heat hotter.
This Audio has it all from beginning to end. The brutish alpha single dad with the sassy single mother next door. Two adorable children who connect and bring their parents along with them as only kids can. Backstories full of emotion. Love, heartache, and grief. A story that is completely relatable and believable which made me pause and wonder how I would feel and react in the situation if I were in either of their shoes.
Both narrators did a fantastic job of reflecting the emotion of the story and the timeframe as it progressed throughout. Not once was I distracted from the story, only sucked in deeper as the characters were developed more and the narrators brought Daniel and Catrin to life.
I would highly recommend this Audio if you’re looking for a second chance love story that will pull at your heart strings, make you laugh, and get you heated in all the right ways.

A beautiful enemy to lovers romance...............

Brute follows the usual sequence for a SC Daiko novel, but that is actually a good thing, in my opinion. I enjoy knowing what to expect from an author I frequently read, and Daiko never disappoints. Brute features two single parents, Daniel and Catrin, Daniel is the usual moody, alpha male jerk, and Catrin is the usual kind, patient and loving female. Of course, as the story progresses, they both become more human, and I ended up loving Daniel for Catrin. Watching her slowly open Daniel's heart and mind to the possibility of love after tragedy is a wonderful experience, and an incredibly erotic and passionate one as well. The author skillfully weaves glimpses of Daniel's past with hints of the secrets he is hiding from Catrin that kept me listening straight through the book in one sitting. Throw in some life threatening danger and some heartbreak on both sides midway through the book, and you have an exciting and beautiful love story that I highly recommend to all fans of romantic suspense.

The narration in this story makes it all the more enjoyable. Wylde and Martin make a wonderful team with their smooth, flawless performance and their passionate delivery. Wylde has a deep, sexy voice that perfectly suits Daniel's character, and Martin's light, melodious voice added even more depth to Catrin's loving personality. Both narrators have beautiful British accents to which I could and did listen for hours.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

3.5 Performance 5 Story

I really liked the story and enjoyed it most of the time. Hugo Wylde's performance was brilliant. He succeed by bringing Brute and other characters portrayed by him to life. Sadly for me, and with all due respect, Hannah Martin's performance as Catherine didn't do it for me. She sounded whiny and childish, although I can tell she tried narrating the story with the same emotions the author has intended to evoked from the reader (this is just my personal opinion).

Brute is an exciting second chance erotic romance, with humor, suspense, some action and sweet moments, that leaves you wanting more. The storyline is well written, intriguing, intense and captivating (I really enjoyed reading the book when it came out first).

In all honesty, if it wasn't for Hugo Wylde performance and the storyline, I wouldn't have giving this audiobook a 4 star rating, and please remember, this is just me. Not everyone has same likes and dislikes!!
