Not a very deep analysis of the subject...

The detail you’d think would be required for an effective analysis is clearly lacking in this book. There is no in-depth coverage of the subject matter. The author’s understanding of the subject is pretty shallow...I’m surprised that he didn’t talk to therapists or other medical professionals to provide the reader with more detail on the various manifestations of the illness. There’s barely enough for the loved ones to make a credible diagnosis of the illness, much less anything useful to the AvPD sufferer to get any insight into the problems and symptoms they endure.

Equally bad was the narration...the book was read way too fast. It was as if the narrator was trying to read the entire book in under an hour on a bet.

Realistic progression of symptoms

I found this very informative & easy to understand. The progression of AVPD symptoms was sobering. The outline for treatment was clear. I liked the reassurance that living a more connected life was attainable

Good resource for starting but not thorough

This was a good starting place for my research but not very in depth as I was hoping for. Very short Abe narrator read very quick and monotone.

The Ultimate Guide? More Like a Podcast Episode

The second chapter was just a word-for-word repeat of the first chapter. The narrator talked too fast. A very, very brief intro for anyone totally unfamiliar with this, and similar, personality disorders.

Limited Information Delivered at Warp Speed

The information presented here was super limited. Others have compared it to a Wikipedia article, and I agree. I felt this book suffered a great deal from a lack of context. How does AvPD differ from social anxiety, or other disorders with considerable symptom overlap? At what point do these behaviors become indicative of a disorder? Those questions felt like glaring omissions. The narration style is also baffling to me. The speed and tone reminded me of the way disclaimers and potential side effects are listed at the end of a pharmaceutical commercial. The narration choices made it difficult to digest the already-meager content of this book. I wish I had read other reviews before purchasing, and I wish I had skipped this one.

Narrator Craig Sweat robotic inconsistency reading

The narrator reading is robotic/disconnected from what he is reading. The narrator reading is inconsistent. He rushes through one word or two then slow down in the same sentence. Sometimes he is reading at the same pace through few sentences then read one word too fast to comprehend of what the meaning of the sentence is. It throws you off the line of the meaning of what he is reading. The reading is so bad that I have to stop listening. The reading isn’t smooth and warm. It is disconnected, cold and inconsistent.
Sorry for the bad review.

a torture to listen

What could Clayton Geoffreys have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It's like a narrated wikipedia article. So superficial and short. Narration was awful too.

How could the performance have been better?

He speaks too fast that I could not understand anything. Terrible terrible narration.

Any additional comments?

I cannot believe I wasted my money on this. STAY AWAY.
