Great Story!

Maddock and Bones make an excellent team in this past paced thriller. An adventure Clive Cussler fans are sure to enjoy with all the pieces to draw the reader in. A long missing book, ancient jewels, and Noah's Ark. Who can resist!

Dane & Bones Are At It Again!

Any additional comments?

I finished listening to this today, and the combination of a Maddock and Bones story and Jeffrey Kafer narration can't be beat. I really enjoyed the Noah storyline in this book and thought it was handled well. I am always sorry for these stories to end, as they are highly entertaining, as well as historical. Excellent job!

Entertaining mystery

This audiobook had you engaged from the beginning, I really need to go back and listen to this series from the start, not that you in anyway need to in order to enjoy this book, it's just the dynamic between Dane and Bones is so intriguing, I just want to know how their relationship started! They're so opposite but compliment each other well. You can't pigeonhole this book, it's a mystery, a suspense and part paranormal, heck I don't know what it is, it's a mash up and it works!

In this story our treasure hunters are on a quest to find the Ark, while relentlessly being pursued by an organization called the Trident who’s on a quest to find the Ark first!

Unwittingly caught up in this race against time is archaeologist Dima Zafrani who joins forces with Bones and Dane to find the holy relic before Trident.

I really enjoy the humorous banter between Dane and Bones, it always comes in at just the right time to ease the tension.

This audiobook is read by Jeffrey Kafer and as always he does a bang up job.

Is the Ark real and can Dane & Bones find it first

Dane and Bones are dragged into the search for Noah's Ark, when Bones grandfather is attacked. Chasing down the Noah Stones, which have amazing powers, brings them in to conflict with the mysterious Trident Group. As they try to stay one step ahead, they embark on a dangerous trek to keep the world safe.

Well read by Jeffrey Kafer, the interaction between Dane and Bones is the main stay of the series and he makes it enjoyable.

Absolutely, I loved the story.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I love the twist and turns the story takes. Never knowing who to trust and what is going to happen next.

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

Bones! His performance of Bones never fails to entertain.

Any additional comments?

I love Maddock and Bones, I sometimes forget until I read/ or listen to another story and then I'm right back in the thick of things with them. The one liners are hilarious and definite laugh of loud moments. The story is intriguing and entertaining. It has a great mix of mystery, action and humour. David Wood's writing always entertains and keeps my attention until the last page.

Adventure, mystical, and dangerous.

Have you listened to any of Jeffrey Kafer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Jeffrey Kafer excels again at his narration of these characters. Jeffrey never lets me down when I listen to his works. The characters are not as much voiced differently in tone and timber but in personality in their voices. There are a few distinctive differences voiced, yes, but most comes through in who the characters are and how they would speak with emotion. This has become so easy to differentiate which character is which in listening. I do enjoy Jeffrey's voice as narrator though. I could listen to him all day.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I find the connections of different histories and written history and mythology to be the gripping part of the story. The way Bones' family treasure leads to Noah and the ark then even another step even further is mesmerizing. I even pause when we get to these realizations to think on what we've crossed and that it all leads to this point. It does! I can totally see the line to this point with what we've learned. David has written the direction of events and the book to back the conclusions with great work. I'm amazed at this and enjoy it.

Any additional comments?

David Wood uses descriptions that make it easy for me to visualize the scenes. The descriptions of the swelling, crashing waves of sea in the prologue makes it easy to see them. And there are many details like this throughout the book.

I'm thrilled this story centers around Bones and his family. We get to meet his family and see a legend from his family. Cherokee. Bones is an individual man, and I love him this way. So, I really enjoy Bones as a character. And I think I might be jealous of Dima. lol.

I so enjoy Bones and Maddock's interactions. They work well together, almost like they know what the other one will do. They trust each other in the most dangerous moments. And they have a humor between them that makes me smile, and even breaks up the dire moments a bit to keep the reader light hearted and going.

This book can very well be read/listened on it's own. I have listened to a few with these characters and of who them mention, but that doesn't impact the story in the least. I do, however, want to listen to ALL the stories in this world after getting the impression of past missions as I really enjoy the characters interactions and friendships. There are many different divisions of groups that are allies or enemies (in a sense) and would love to see all interact.

I will be looking for all sorts of books in this world!

Da Vinci Code meets Raiders of the Lost Ark

Ark by Dave Wood is a fast paced action thriller including secret societies, religious relics, treasure hunting, and so much more. The Audiobook is done very well by the professional work of Jeffrey Kafer; you cannot go wrong with his narration. The book kept me engaged and wanting to know how the adventure was going to end and how many people would lose their lives in the process.

If you asked me to give a quick summary of the book, think a blending of “The Da Vinci Code”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, and “National Treasure” wrapped into one book where the main characters are previous Navy seals. The book involves a team of people searching for Noah’s Ark taking the characters across many different locations all the while people are looking to stop or kill them at every turn. If this sounds interesting to you, I would recommend you pick up the book and have a read.

Ark is the seventh book in the Dane Maddock Adventures, and it should be noted that this is the first book I have read in the series. So this review is based only on my knowledge of it and not the overall series. With that said, I overall enjoyed the book and it does not appear that one needs to have familiarity of the previous books in the series. I’m sure the characters may be better understood having read the others books. If you are looking for a theologically correct book, I would say look elsewhere. If you are looking for a fictional book that includes aspects of Christian or Biblical accounts, you may enjoy this book. Again, think “Raiders of the Lost Ark” from a depth of theology; which really means there is none. It is clear the author has researched Biblical and other non-Biblical religious texts and blends them into this story.

Wood seems to be experienced in writing this type of genre (being this is #7), and I liked his ability to describe the scene well enough for me to get a good picture of the action/adventure. I liked the various locations, languages, and overall revealing of the plot over the entire tale. In some of the situations I would have liked to have had a deeper understanding of some of the characters (which may have been in previous books) along with more backstory details. I would have also like to have had some description or side details when the team traveled from one location to another; often covering thousands of miles. Maybe some details or side events occurring while going from one place to another. In most cases, travel to other locations consisted of a few sentences saying such happened with no depth or extra details. More like they were able to use a portal to get from one place to another rather quickly. I just did not get a feeling for the length of time such travel would have taken.

Some of the writing and humor seemed more immature than what I would have expected coming from characters who were seals or other highly educated characters. Although the book contained no vulgar language (which for some reason I would have expected from a seal), the book does have sexual overtones and innuendos in various paces. The two main characters would be sent to Human Resources (HR) more than once for their comments of many of the women characters. I do have to give the author credit for being able to tell the story without having to include vulgar language and making the book overall safe for a younger audience.

Let me speak to the narration of the audiobook. Mr. Kafer, as always, does an excellent job telling this story as he has in others. The audio is clear and crisp, and Mr. Kafer’s voice is rich and fluid. There were no audio artifacts heard throughout the book; no recorded pops, clicks, or swallows. I have many others book by this Audible narrator, and often would buy a book he voices even if it is not in my preferred genre. That is how much I enjoy his ability to narrate books. With over 330 total books already narrated, I recommend any book that interests you read by him. Thank you for making a very good book even better through your narration.
