About this listen

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was one of the greatest writers of all time. Today he is remembered both as a brilliant playwright and one of the masters of the short story. "Anna Around the Neck" and "A Trifle from Life" are prime examples of the latter.Public Domain (P)2008 Roberson Audio Classics

Good Chekhov bad Narration

This was only 63 cents so it is difficult to find too much fault. I really like both of these stories, but the narration and audio is so bad as to make the overall experience quite poor. There is a slight but annoying echo and hum in the audio and the narrator enunciates so strictly it is irritating. I would certainly not recommend this selection to anyone.

I Was Not Impressed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This felt like one of those books that I academically "should" listen to, but it did not have anything exciting or appealing about it.

If you’ve listened to books by Anton Chekhov before, how does this one compare?

I have not really been impressed by Chekhov's work overall.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

There was nothing wrong with the narration but nothing stood out either.

Was 'Anna Around the Neck' and 'A Trifle from Life' worth the listening time?

The stories are not of much more than academic interest. I do not understand why some people are fascinated by Chekhov.

Any additional comments?

There are many other books more worth the time and attention.

Yes, and they are all excellently performed, he doesn't read books he acts them out.

Any additional comments?

This is well worth the money I spent on it, which wasn't much.
