Help for anger management — from NYT bestselling author Gary Chapman

Anger is a cruel master. If you struggle even a little with anger, you know how it feels to get mad too easily. To lash out at someone you love. To hold onto frustration. You might even notice others seem uneasy around you.

You know anger is hurting your life, but you don’t know how to fix it.

There is hope. When you understand why you get angry and what to do about it, you can change the course of your life for the better. • Manage anger and conflict constructively
  • Make positive life changes
  • Let go of your grudges and resentment
  • Help others (like your children) deal with anger
    and more

Whether your anger is quiet or explosive, if it’s clouding your judgment and hurting your relationships, it needs to go. Learn to handle anger in healthy ways, starting today. Gary Chapman is wise and empathetic, and he'll help you turn over a new leaf.

"Anger is a response to some event or situation in life that causes us irritation, frustration, pain, or other displeasure ... Anger is fed by feelings of disappointment, hurt, rejection, and embarrassment." (16) Human anger is rooted in the divine nature. God's concern for both justice and righteousness stimulate His anger. When He sees evil, He experiences anger. (19) "Anger is not evil; anger is not sinful; anger is not a part of our fallen nature; anger is not Satan at work in our lives. Quite the contrary. Anger is evidence that we are made in God's image..." (21) "Human anger is designed by God to motivate us to take constructive action in the face of wrongdoing or when facing injustice." (23) "The divine model is clear: God's response to anger is always to take loving action, to seek to stop the evil, and to redeem the evil-doer.” (26) Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is perhaps a good example of anger expressed in a more constructive way.”

while a Christian author, I didn't feel it was too "preachy". there are lots of great insights in this book regardless of you're a Christian or not

everyone should listen to this book

Really good approaches but all stories are derived from the Bible or from Christian experiences which made me feel thrown. I believe and this helps but also feels like I could have heard this information at my Church instead of paying for a book.

Enjoyed it but you should be Christian to read this

I like the Quick Take summaries at the end of each chapter. They can help me to review steps to remember how to deal with my anger.

I’m not typically someone who thinks of themselves as angry, but as life has gone on, I’ve noticed more anger creeping in—especially in how I respond to my kids. This book helped me pause and reflect on where that anger is really coming from. Gary Chapman walks you through how past trauma, unmet expectations, and even buried emotions can resurface in ways you don’t always realize.

What made this stand out was how deeply rooted it is in biblical truth. It’s not just about behavior management—it’s about heart transformation through the cross of Christ. I walked away with practical tools, a renewed mind, and a greater understanding of how to extend forgiveness and grace. It was REALLY good—and honestly, a game-changer for me as a parent and a follower of Jesus.

Helpful, Christ-Centered and Biblical

May work for people who haven’t heard of another book called The Holy Bible. I lost interest in the second chapter. Author is simply describing and quoting another book that no one seems to know for sure if it’s fiction with non-fiction elements or not. Unfortunately I need help, not a bible study. Wasted money
