About this listen

If you stumbled on a witch, are you sure you could spot her? What if she came in the form of a sweet old lady sporting sweats? So begins the witchy, wondrous debut novel certain to warm your soul and give it shivers at the same heart-thumping time.

With a smouldering cauldron of quirky witches, wayward ghosts, sarcastic pets - and an awkward male sidekick - this tale of two covens offers delightful new ways to separate the good witch from the bad.

When Amy and her one-eared, one-eyed cat Scruff escape her abusive great aunt, their getaway car is sent hurtling through a tunnel by a wave of water, and her simple plan goes awry in ways Amy could never have conjured. What follows is a series of curious circumstances, particularly the strange ways of the elderly Milly and her sweatsuit-clad friends. Together, they form the OLDGALS - Old Ladies Doing Good And Loving Sweats.

When a trio of evil witches confront them, a fierce battle begins. Can Amy triumph over evil - and perhaps even find superhuman romance? For Amy and friends, it's an action-packed, magical ride that's as bumpy a ride as witch's broom, and always brimming over with spine-tingling surprises.

Eight Hours of FUN and Scary Adventure!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Amy and the OLDGALS was written for children--ages 5 to 7 through middle grade would probably love it--but my wife and I enjoyed it, too, as it made us laugh frequently and drew us into the plot's suspense. I suspect this book will entertain and please anyone who's young at heart!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Without a doubt, our favorite character was Scruff--how could he not be? (One ear, one eye, and a plucky spirit despite his rough life and crotchety age--for a cat.

What about Abby Elvidge’s performance did you like?

Abby Elvidge was perfect in this role! Within minutes of our starting to listen to the book, her identity as a narrator simply vanished as her voice 'became' Amy's voice, Scruff's voice, and the story's voice...as if my subconscious thought, "Well, of course this reader is reading this story because her voice IS the story and its characters." Ms. Elvidge does a superlative job!

Any additional comments?

I especially liked how the author opens the book with an exciting and very unique passage, which leads to a seemingly mundane situation that hints of strange and possibly dark events to come. Soon the suspense and tension builds, leading to action and a climax that does more than justice to the book's exciting start. Congratulations author Katherine E. Warner and narrator Abby Elvidge!

A great family adventure!

This is a great book! I wouldn't classify this book as a children s book, but as a family adventure just like the old-fashioned Disney movies are a family adventure. This is the perfect book for long family trips on a vacation or even for a Sunday get-together. The young and old alike will love it!!!. I would call it a family paranormal.

Amy and the OLDGALS is about a town with lots of witches in it. The main characters are Amy and her one-eyed, one-eared old mangy cat named Scruff. This cat is a riot and he even talks!

The story starts out with Amy getting lost during a really heavy rain storm and hides in a tunnel that floods into a river and she is rescued and taken to Millie's house, where the story takes off. This part alone is very exciting! As we read more of the story, we meet many characters both good and bad such as Millie, Franny, Matt and so on. It becomes a fight of good witches vs bad witches. I really liked how it ended too when Amy got a new partner.

This is a wild adventure ride packed with action, suspense, mystery and magic. It is a G rated family adventure to thrill everyone who listens. I found many places that gave me quite a chuckle too - specially Scruff, what a character he is!

The author, Katherine E Warner did a fantastic job writing this story! She has packed it with a great plot with so may twists in it, it would make a good witch jump for joy! The narrator, Abby Elvidge is fantastic with her delivery of this book. Her speech is flawless, the sound effects are awesome and the book as a whole is just so much fun!!! Abby is a master of voices.
