About this listen

A successful writer accidentally sends her new (and super-dreamy) editor the wrong manuscript. Instead of the full-length paranormal novel she promised Longstrand Publishing, she sends the fan fiction she’s written about her crush…on him—including every detail of the hot, steamy “physical activity” she’s fantasized about happening between them.

And Chase Dawson may be the hottest man alive and a super-talented editor to boot, but he’s completely oblivious that he’s the star of the manuscript he just convinced his boss to green-light.

Brooke Baker has been through a lot in her 31 years of life.

A divorce.
A career change.
A move to New York City from “small-town” Ohio.
Not to mention, she has a bit of a medical condition that involves occasional fainting spells, mild embarrassment, and the companionship of her adorable service dog and canine sidekick, Benji.

But none of it has prepared her for this.

None of it prepared her for Chase Dawson.

Strong jaw, blue eyes, cut muscles, and a perfect swoop of superhero-worthy black hair, Chase’s features are those of a book boyfriend and then some. Obviously, Brooke would know—she literally filled an entire manuscript with it.

A manuscript no one was ever supposed to see.

Will she survive two months of revising and editing the sizzling romance she imagined with Chase in extremely close quarters with him? Or will the constant white lies and overwhelming attraction make her spontaneously combust?

I typically love all things Max Monroe, but this one fell a little flat for me. Not bad, just didn’t hit quite the same as other books by this author for me.

Cute, but not great

I found it odd and distracting that the female narrator performed Chase’s lines with a southern accent when the male narrator did not. There was definitely a disconnect in that regard. Otherwise the narration was good. The story was cute but predictable.

Exactly what other reviews said..It’s packed with fillers. The main characters basically say the exact same things when talking about their point of view. It was so annoying. I skimmed through half of this book. This should have only been 8 hours. It’s Repetitive which made it boring. This book should have been free. I’m disappointed I purchased it.

I loved the character development and the narrators were spot on. It was so nice to listen to a book that wasn’t all explicit sex and still so entertaining. I loves their chemistry. So worth it. My first Max Monroe wont be my last🎉🎉

So cute.

IT HAS SO MUCH GOING FOR IT I DONT REGRET READING OR LISTENING TO IT THE NARRATORS ARE GREAT BUT I HAVE ONE BIG ISSUE WITH THE BOOK BUT ALSO ONE BIG POSITIVE.

SEE ON ONE HAND I LOVED THAT THE MAIN CHARACTER OUR HERO IS A TRULY AMAZING GUY FROM THE START RATHER THAN THE ROMANCES THAT PUSH THE IDEA THAT MEN OR WOMEN WILL SUDDENLY CHANGE FROM A P.O.S DIRTBAG TO HERO WORTHY BECAUSE WHILE WE CAN BECOME BETTER PEOPLE FROM LOVE WE CANT CHANGE FOR OTHERS IN THE LONG RUN IT WON’T LAST. IT ENDS UP MAKING FOR A FALSE NARRATIVE IN REAL LIFE AND SO MANY PEOPLE END UP CHASING THE “BAD” BOY OR GIRL THAT REALLY JUST LEADS TO HEARTACHE OR WORSE, ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS AND LONGTERM EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL AND PHYSICAL SCARS.

SO I ADORE THAT MAX MONROE MADE THESE MAIN CHARACTERS BOTH GOOD PEOPLE ESPECIALLY THE SWEET AND SWOONWORTHY HERO CHASE.

THE CONCEPT AND STORY ARE ALSO UNIQUE AND FUNNY THOUGH A BIT LESS HUMOR THAN THEIR OTHER BOOKS. STILL GREAT THOUGH AND WORTH A READ.

MY ONE ISSUE WITH IT ?????

ITS ACTUALLY BEEN AN ISSUE AS OF LATELY WITH MAX MONROE AND A FEW OTHER AUTHORS ON KU. THEY KEEP DRAGGING OUT THE BOOK BECAUSE KU PAYS PER PAGE READ.

WHAT THEY DON’T GET IS THAT PEOPLE END UP NOT FINISHING IT OR SKIPPING IT ANYWAY SO THEY LOSE MONEY AND ULTIMATELY READERS BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE ME GIVE UP AFTER WE REALIZE THIS IS THEIR NEW NORM FOR BOOKS. I HAVE READ EVERY BOOK THEY EVER WROTE FOR YEARS NOW BUT I HAVE DECIDED AFTER THIS BOOK I WON’T BE READING ANY MORE FROM THEM FOR AWHILE, AT LEAST UNTIL THEY GO BACK TO BEING THE GENUINE STORYTELLERS THEY USE TO BE INSTEAD OF JUST TRYING FOR MORE PAGES AND MORE MONEY. WHICH IS SAD AS THEY WERE IN MY TOP FIVE FAVORITES.

I HOPE FOR THEM TO RETURN TO THEIR ROOTS. THATCHERS BOOK WAS LONG BUT IT NEEDED TO BE IT WAS AMAZING. HOWEVER WRITING MORE JUST TO DRAG IT OUT FOR A BIGGER PAYDAY IS NOT WHAT WE EXPECT FROM A TEAM THAT HAD BEEN UNIQUE AND REFRESHINGLY HILARIOUS. WE MISS THE OG MAX MONROE BOOKS BRING EM BACK PLEASE !!!!!!!! THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A 5 STAR BOOK IF THEYD NOT DRAGGED IT OUT I LOVED IT BUT THE REPETITIVE SCENES MADE FOR A TEDIOUS READ BETWEEN THE REAL STORY SCENES. THANKS (:

I FEEL TORN BECAUSE….

I think the plot is very creative, not your typical spin on a trope which was refreshing. However, it could have been so much better. I didn’t feel like the characters had that much chemistry. There was banter and a bit of humor but it was executed in more of sibling-like, rather than flirting so it kind of felt weird to listen to at times.

So much potential

I felt a lack of romance, but I liked the story line up until the ending. *spoiler, why did he wait to talk to her so long at the end? And why jump to the conclusions so quick when he always knew it was his own fault sheade that list. Kind of like a frustrating Ross and Rachel type ending. almost there, but needed more love shown, more chemistry, and a better articulated ending. I didn't leave this book feeling the head much. just blah.

Almost had me
