About this listen

Members of an Egyptian expedition fall victim to an ancient mummy's curse in a thrilling Veronica Speedwell novel from the New York Times best-selling author of the Lady Julia Grey mysteries.

London, 1888. As colorful and unfettered as the butterflies she collects, Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell can't resist the allure of an exotic mystery - particularly one involving her enigmatic colleague, Stoker.

His former expedition partner has vanished from an archaeological dig with a priceless diadem unearthed from the newly discovered tomb of an Egyptian princess. This disappearance is just the latest in a string of unfortunate events that have plagued the controversial expedition, and rumors abound that the curse of the vengeful princess has been unleashed as the shadowy figure of Anubis himself stalks the streets of London.

But the perils of an ancient curse are not the only challenges Veronica must face as sordid details and malevolent enemies emerge from Stoker's past. Caught in a tangle of conspiracies and threats - and thrust into the public eye by an enterprising new foe - Veronica must separate facts from fantasy to unravel a web of duplicity that threatens to cost Stoker everything....

I rarely give a book a 5, but....

I cannot overemphasize how much I love this series. The writing, characters, and plot are excellent, but it is the connection between the two leads that is MAGICAL. Lovers come and go, but to find a partner you are attracted to, one that thinks of you before he thinks of himself, one that loves you as a friend first....Well, guard and nurture that love because it is hard to come by. My Husband and I always say,"I am yours and you are mine" and I shake my head and marvel at what we have between us. Please, NEVER, NEVER take this incredible gift for granted.
The author conveys this concept again and again throughout the series and that theme......
Well, take it with you.

Very fun read-

I enjoyed both books in this series so far- really looking forward to the next one.
The narrator perfectly conveyed the humor and irony throughout the book.

Just fantastic.

I cannot enjoy this book series more than I already do. I ship Stoker and Veronica so bad!!! I love how they have fallen into these mysteries, how organic their story is and the crazy shenanigans they end up in occur. I have been telling everyone I know to listen or read the series.

So close, yet so far away.

I have loved each instalment in this series. I am both an avid lover of mystery & hopeless romantic. The will they, won't they element adds the perfect fuel to the fire that is Veronica & Stoker's story. Waiting will only make their inevitability romance that much sweeter. A HUGE THANK YOU to you, authoress! I will be waiting with bated breath for the next adventure.

Enjoyable Series

The narrator is excellent and the story line is well developed. The solving of each mystery reminds me of Columbo..."just one more thing."

The performance and the clever written characters and story.

These books are so entertaining. I love the biting wit of the main characters and a strong determined female. Well written and presented!

Which casts the curse - a mummy or a lady?

This third entry into the Veronica Speedwell mystery series is as well crafted as the beginning books. All to often, money and fame and the pursuit therein are the undoing of seemingly good people. Deanna Raybourn has crafted well thought out characters, drawn mystery from the goings on of the time period and made them realistic to the world that contains them. l am definitely interested to continue on and find where Veronica and Rebelstoke shall journey next.

Just Keeps Getting Better

I find this series improving with each installment. Even the narrator, whose voice I found grating in the first installment, has improved. As usual, I loved the banter between Veronica and Stoker. But most of all, we finally got a deeper look into Stoker's past, and it seems like he is finally starting to heal because of the events of this book. As always, Deanna writes a mystery that keeps you guessing, and I am eagerly awaiting the fourth book.
