Publisher's summary

It is deep winter. The darkness is unending. The private detective named Jaycob Eklund has vanished, and Charlie Parker is dispatched to track him down. Parker's employer, Edgar Ross, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has his own reasons for wanting Eklund found. Eklund is no ordinary investigator. He is obsessively tracking a series of homicides and disappearances, each linked to reports of hauntings. Now Parker will be drawn into Eklund's world, a realm in which the monstrous Mother rules a crumbling criminal empire, in which men strike bargains with angels, and in which the innocent and guilty alike are pawns in a game of ghosts.

The Best!

Would you listen to A Game of Ghosts again? Why?

Yes, and I have listened several times - because it is a deep and intricate work. It deals with 'Brethren' which is a cult that I am unfortunately familiar with, and this book helped me think through many aspects of my experiences with them.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, Connolly has a very deep and inquiring mind. Why is this cult (and many other cults), so secretive and punitive? Well Connolly has some very good suggestions embedded in the text of this book...

What does Jeff Harding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Well Jeff Harding is a wonderful narrator who is a pleasure to listen to - especially at night when the lights are out.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

where the cult meets the occult.

Any additional comments?

Yes the head of the Brethren Cult thinks he is the reincarnated St Paul. The Pope thinks he is the reincarnated St Peter...

GAME OF STORIES

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, I wouldn't! I would recommend them to start the series from the beginning.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

None.As The book, the ending reflected the absence of panache.

What didn’t you like about Jeff Harding’s performance?

I love Jeff Harding's performance, he is by far my favorite reader.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No !

Any additional comments?

It had to happen. We, the unconditional readers of Charlie Parker had it coming. We had been enthralled and captivated too many times.Game of ghosts, by far did not live up to my expectations. The narrative is neither as powerful nor absorbing as we were used to.
It pains me to say that I got distracted reading this one and this is a first to me.Plus, one of the main villains was wiped out and the way it happened did not do him justice.Too many characters and subplots got me confused and I might be wrong here but I felt a certain lassitude that transpired through the words of the writer.Well, all that will not prevent me from reading the next installment, but it had to be said.
