A good book and great ending

I wasn’t a fan of the cliff hanger at the end of the first book but I that’s because I was so invested. I love the second book, listened to it with a day. So good.

I feel that this story is made so much better by listening, the accents and pronunciations. I love the way this duology tied up. It was great.

This story was everything I’d been waiting for and more. From the first page, Danielle pulled me back into a world so beautifully crafted, it felt like coming home. I laughed, cried, and raged alongside Freya and Bjorn—their love burned with a fire that refused to die, even when hatred and heartbreak tried to extinguish it.

But it wasn’t just the romance that stole my breath—it was the raw, relentless fight for their world. The plot twist hit like a punch to the gut. I was stunned, grieving with the characters as truth shattered everything they believed in. The betrayal, the heartbreak, the strength it took to rise again—it was all so real, so powerful.

Freya was the heart of it all. Fierce, flawed, compassionate—she never stopped fighting, even when the weight of it nearly broke her. And Bjorn… the way they chose each other, again and again, through war and ruin, melted me. I just can’t ever blame her for how sweet and giving she is, no matter how many times I feel as though they don’t deserve her beautiful heart. It was very sweet though to witness the redemption of so many characters I wrote off because of their mistreatment of Freya…I can’t believe I grew to love them and saw them as who Freya did…simply human with the ability to falter in weakness.

Just like Bjorn I fell in love with her because of the very same trait I had first hated about her. Her protector mother Hiln had to make sure she had this selfless trait to walk strongly alongside her on the straight & narrow path. Without it Freya would’ve been lost to Hel and her dreadful domain.

Danielle’s writing is pure magic. She made me feel every sword clash, every whispered promise, every moment of aching hope. I’ll carry this story—and these characters—with me for a long time.

Major love to the narrators of this beautiful story, they helped paint such a clear and stunning picture every step of the way! Immaculate work, I felt almost sad to know it’d be the last time I hear Nina Yndis as Freya and it was such a pleasure to hear such a fitting voice from Nikolas Salmon for Bjorn.
