About this listen
In celebration of its 10th anniversary, a revised and updated edition of the award-winning #1 New York Times bestseller that changed the way we look at meditation, expanded with new material by Dan Harris.
After having a nationally televised panic attack on Good Morning America, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head.
We all have an inner narrator. It’s what has us losing our temper unnecessarily, checking our email compulsively, eating when we’re not hungry, and fixating on the past and the future at the expense of the present. Most of us assume we’re stuck with this voice—that there’s nothing we can do to rein it in—but Harris stumbled upon an effective way to do just that.
10% Happier is now considered a classic text on the power of meditation, an introduction to the practice that can convert even the most hardened skeptic. With over a million copies sold, 10% Happier is the go-to guide, and with meditation now a widely accepted and encouraged practice, Dan Harris is a pivotal and approachable figure in the field who has built a thriving platform based on the ideas he first presented in this book.
In this 10th Anniversary Edition, Harris offers a new preface reflecting on how much has changed—for him and for the public perceptions of meditation, plus a revised and expanded appendix, filled with guided meditations and practical advice for people looking to boot up a habit.

Story
Our ego, and its accompanying sense of nagging self-doubt as we work to be bigger, better, smarter, and more in control, is one affliction we all share. In Advice Not Given, Dr. Mark Epstein reveals how Buddhism and Western psychotherapy, two traditions that developed in entirely different times and places and, until recently, had nothing to do with each other, both identify the ego as the limiting factor in our well-being, and both come to the same conclusion: When we give the ego free reign, we suffer; but when it learns to let go, we are free.

In business, the right behaviors matter. But getting it right is tricky. Even when we acknowledge the need to change what we do and how we do it, life has a habit of getting in the way, upsetting even the best-laid plans. And just how do we manage those situations that can provoke even the most rational among us into behaving in ways we would rather forget?

Story
Experience the book that started the Quiet Movement and revolutionized how the world sees introverts - and how introverts see themselves - by offering validation, inclusion, and inspiration. At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts - Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak - that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

In a time of loneliness and isolation, social rupture and alienation, what will it take to mend our broken hearts and rebuild our society? Sharon Brous—a leading American rabbi—makes the case that the spiritual work of our time, as instinctual as it is counter-cultural, is to find our way to one other in celebration, in sorrow, and in solidarity. To show up for each other in moments of joy and pain, vulnerability and possibility, to invest in relationships of shared purpose and build communities of care.

Great story and great information!
I’ve already been meditating for the past two years, and with great benefit, but never with any formal study. Dans account of his own journey was so thoroughly enjoyable that I listened to it with wrapped attention on a long drive, even though many of the concepts were already familiar to me. His humor and his incredible storytelling abilities, made it all so impactful. I especially enjoyed his account of his 10 day, silent meditation retreat, and his stories of Sam Harris, and Joseph Goldstein, my personal heroes. he reminds us that meditation is a humbling practice and it is just that, a practice, but he does so with such panache that no matter where you are in your meditation journey, you will enjoy this book. Lastly, his struggle with the balance between achievement and contentment is one that I to have struggled with, and I would be surprised that not everyone considers in their own path to Nirvana. Thoroughly fun, engrossing, and instructional. Definitely worth a read!

I am easily distracted and much like Dan the world flies by faster than I can catch each fly ball. Dan’s book has given me a fighting chance to slow the world down.

Recommended this book.
I never would've bought it otherwise, but I'm so glad I did.
I just recommended 10% Happier to my students.
The best part was the chapter in which Dan Harris goes on a nine-day silent retreat. I laughed throughout it.
If you have anxiety, addiction, or depression, or if you're a human, I highly recommend 10% Happier by Dan Harris.

Enlightening and Healing
I’ve been a listener of the 10 Percent Happier Podcast (Wondery) and also a subscriber to the app for a few years now. It is my favorite podcast and most nights I use the sleep meditations on the app. I came to read this book based on the podcast episodes highlighting it’s anniversary. I’m glad I did! Dan, if you’re reading this, know that your work in this area has changed my life. As a highly anxious person who has gone through cycles of recovery and lapses into agoraphobia all my life, your podcast and app, and now book, has helped me in my recent recovery process. Meditation has provided a much needed period of self-reflection. I’m a better person for it and it’s inspired me to write about my experience with agoraphobia, meditation and self awareness. I love your writing style and no BS approach. I love that you break it down for people who have no clue about meditation. Thank you a million times over and may you happy. May you be safe and protected from harm. May you be healthy and strong. May you live with ease.

I saw this book on a lot of must read lists. Although it was interesting perspective on meditation, I don’t think it was the book for me.
