I chose this book on a whim and had no prior knowledge of the plot. I thought the story was very interesting and it caught my attention throughout the entire book. I did find it funny how many time the mention a certain celebrity’s name, at some point I was concerned about it lol but overall very interesting, nothing I’ve read before and the narrator was really great.

It’s part of a series, make sure to go through those first!

I was browsing around and saw this new release and decided to give it a shot. I was completely unaware that this was a spin off to a series so A LOT of context was missed by my part.
To start, it did have a good start until the story started getting “preachy” as most people have called it. And it’s understandable, I audibly would groan when there was another mention of masks, COVID, vaccinations, etc. HOWEVER, what I lacked was an understanding of the protagonist’s character and putting her in this situation, it makes more sense of the perspective and stance she takes.
SK leaves a note at the end that I think is worth listening to, his POV also clears things up
The general story line was very good, I stuck around because of how enticing it was. It’s definitely worth listening to.

Story
From New York Times best-selling author Stephen Graham Jones comes a novel that is equal parts psychological horror and cutting social commentary on identity politics and the American-Indian experience. Fans of Jordan Peele and Tommy Orange will love this story as it follows the lives of four American-Indian men and their families, all haunted by a disturbing, deadly event that took place in their youth. Years later, they find themselves tracked by an entity bent on revenge, totally helpless as the culture and traditions they left behind catch up to them in a vengeful way.

Good idea, bad approach

Honestly followed a Tik Tok review and decided to pull the trigger on this book. I had high expectations and wanted to give it an hardy try before judging it. The first 20 chapters were such a BORE; you could fade in and out of the story and miss a good amount of dialogue without missing a single hit of the story. It almost felt as if the writer had a word count to reach.
HOWEVER, after the first exciting event happens it starts to pick up and actually get interesting. I found myself having to pay more attention and actually rewinding it a few times to make sure I didn’t miss anything. By the end, I’d say it made up for the dull beginning. At the same time, it’s a shame that it takes about half the book for it to actually get somewhere.
The narration was great, the story had a good idea; it could’ve taken less to get there.

Story
Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - though no one calls them that anymore. His wife has left him, his father is sinking into dementia, and Marcos tries not to think too hard about how he makes a living. After all, it happened so quickly. First, it was reported that an infectious virus has made all animal meat poisonous to humans. Then governments initiated the "Transition". Now, eating human meat - "special meat" - is legal. Marcos tries to stick to numbers, consignments, processing.

I wasn’t entirely sure where the story was going and once I reached the last chapter I was really curious to how they could wrap it up; it could’ve kept going. It is very graphic to where I could see EVERYTHING with their descriptions. If you’re into gore, hen this book definitely delivers. I thought this was a great story.

Story
Darby Thorne is a college student stranded by a blizzard at a highway rest stop in the middle of nowhere. She’s on the way home to see her sick mother. She’ll have to spend the night in the rest stop with four complete strangers. Then she stumbles across a little girl locked inside one of their parked cars. There is no cell phone reception, no telephone, no way out because of the snow, and she doesn’t know which one of the other travelers is the kidnapper.

When I read the reviews, I had high hopes for this story; unfortunately it does not live up to its hype. It was repetitive, the characters would change so randomly that I would have to rewind to understand that the POV was different and the ending was wack AF.
It had some good bits here and there but the so called “breathtaking twist” I could see from a mile away. I very much regret investing in this story.

Story
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

Great narration, cringey sex parts

The narration style of this story was great! I appreciated the layout they decided to go with in using different POVs. They had a few sex scenes that were ABYSMAL; who says “vag”?! 😂
Aside from that, I didn’t know where the story was going, and just when I thought I’d figured it out, BOOM, total switch!
I’d recommend it as a fun journey!

Newlyweds Sam Statler and Annie Potter are head over heels, and excited to say good-bye to New York city and start a life together in Sam's sleepy hometown upstate. Or, it turns out, a life where Annie spends most of her time alone while Sam, her therapist husband, works long hours in his downstairs office, tending to the egos of his (mostly female) clientele. Little does Sam know that through a vent in his ceiling, every word of his sessions can be heard from the room upstairs.
