Story
Mercury, a lifeless victim of the Sun’s expanding power. Venus, once thought to be lush and fertile, now known to be trapped within a toxic and boiling atmosphere. Mars, the red planet, doomed by the loss of its atmosphere. Jupiter, twice the size of all the other planets combined, but insubstantial. Saturn, a stunning celestial beauty, the jewel of our Solar System. Uranus, the sideways planet and the first ice giant. Neptune, dark, cold and whipped by supersonic winds. Pluto, the dwarf planet, a frozen rock.

Love Astronomy? Then Listen…
Reviewed: 06-21-22
I have listened to many varied science and Astronomy specific books and courses. It’s informative and well done. Great for either beginners, or more seasoned listeners. Lots of info, and enjoyably broken down by planets and regions. Great info on the related moons, as well….

Great first hand account of these historical events. Some have criticized the narrator, but I found no issues with the narration. Interest in Everest, climbing, or this one particular event? Get the book. It’s great.

Story
The prevailing image of European Jews during the Holocaust is one of helpless victims. But in fact, many Jews struggled against the terrors of the Third Reich. This is the riveting history of one such group: a forest community numbering more than 1,200 that carried out the largest armed rescue operation of Jews by Jews in World War II.

Very good!

I highly recommend watching the movie before reading the book, because even though there is a bit of “Hollywood” involved, it will allow the reader to have a better visual of the people and places being described in the book. Some have complained that the book is too academic, and I found that it is exactly what it should be… History mixed with documentary which equals reality. I do not think I would have come to appreciate the dire situations encountered, nor would I have had as clear an understanding of the principals involved had I not watched the movie first. A definite must listen for those who are interested in, and want to dig below the surface of the known atrocities forced upon the Jewish communities of many nations during WW II. A true story about survival and what it took, and the ability of a few men to build a safe haven for as many as possible.

Full spectrum of emotions. I cried, I laughed at times, I was angry. Very engrossing. My first experience with this classic, and I now know why it is a classic. Excellent reading and performance, as well.

Very enjoyable...

I felt it was a nice mixture of relatable stories with some non denominational scriptures. I am not religious, but enjoyed the readings and didn’t find them to be preachy in any way. I lost my best friend Joey several years ago, and still have not “moved on”, and it felt good to be able to let go a little bit more. Some laughter, lots of tears, and a pretty easy listen. If you are grieving and think you are alone, this book will help you realize that you are not, and it’s okay.
