Story
Communications from beloved pets are seen by thousands every day. Some messages are given in ways that require an acute awareness and more interpretation as well. From the heavens above, signs are given by deceased pets to connect with their families they left behind. Oftentimes, the gifts they share are unseen or are difficult to identify. Learning to speak the language of spirit requires practice, but once identified, the joy of hearing from your pet in spirit can bring great comfort.

Story
Our pets are part of the family. For many they're as close as children; for some they may be our only children. And while most of us can expect that our children will outlive us, sadly, our pets almost never do. Losing a pet can be as difficult as losing any other family member; we grieve, we miss them, and, mostly, we want closure, to know that our furry, feathered, or scaled friends are okay, wherever they are. For years, animal communicator Sonya Fitzpatrick has helped pet owners cope with the loss of their beloved companions. Many of them ask the same questions: Is my pet happy?

Story
Transform grief from an unbearable burden into a journey of acceptance, remembrance, and renewal. According to the American Pet Products Association, almost 70 percent of households in the United States own a pet, most often a dog or a cat. In recent years, pet owners have collectively spent $72 billion on animal care each year. Clearly, millions of people love their pets and find them invaluable companions in life. If you’re among these millions of lucky pet owners, then you don’t even need statistics to confirm such an incredible bond between humans and pets.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Every one of us sooner or later walks through hell. The hell of being hurt, the hell of hurting another. The hell of cancer, the hell of a reluctant, thunking shovel full of earth upon the casket of someone we deeply loved, the hell of betrayal, the hell of betraying, the hell of divorce, the hell of a kid in trouble...the hell of knowing that this year, like any year, may be our last. We all walk through hell. The point is not to come out empty-handed.... There is real and profound power in the suffering we endure if we transform that suffering into a more authentic, meaningful life.

Story
We tend to think of faith as a commodity you either have or you don't. But in many of the world's wisdom traditions, faith isn't something you possess; it's something you do. "Faith is a willingness to take the next step, to see the unknown as an adventure, to launch a journey," teaches Sharon Salzberg. Now this beloved meditation teacher and author shares her unique understanding of faith, distinguishing it from belief and dogma, to help you cultivate this profound force in your life.

Patsy Clairmont loves a good twirl. The kind that will make a child fall to the ground, squeal with laughter, and then want to get up and spin in circles some more! However, there is a twirl where busy schedules and urgency create a different and unwanted variety of dizzy in our lives. Though hurry-up is part of the human dilemma and certain seasons bring more of it than others, if it becomes a lifestyle you might find yourself on the slippery slopes of bitterness, sadness, and depression.

It’s not easy, but God will use it to lead you toward healing. This path is called lament. In the midst of your darkest times, you will discover that lament leads you back to a place of hope - not because lamenting does anything magical, but because God sings a louder song than suffering ever could, a song of renewal and restoration.

The Book of Pet Love and Loss is a collection of quotations—poignant thoughts and memories discovered in letters, journals, diaries, memoirs, and other original sources—from beloved cultural figures who understood this singular experience so deeply, they felt compelled to write about it. This book dignifies the profound connection we share with our animal companions, but it also provides solace as mourners document their heartache over the loss of their cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, and other animals—even, in the case of Pablo Neruda, a mongoose.

Very enjoyable...
I felt it was a nice mixture of relatable stories with some non denominational scriptures. I am not religious, but enjoyed the readings and didn’t find them to be preachy in any way. I lost my best friend Joey several years ago, and still have not “moved on”, and it felt good to be able to let go a little bit more. Some laughter, lots of tears, and a pretty easy listen. If you are grieving and think you are alone, this book will help you realize that you are not, and it’s okay.

Sad but true
This book brought tears to my eyes and smiles to my face, sadness to my heart and regrets for my Bailey Boo, my first dog. I felt like the worst dog owner, because I couldn’t stay there when we decided to put him down. I felt like such a coward to not have been there with him as the Veterinarian euthanized my big dog Bailey. I have missed him since and always will. You’re a good dog Bailey and I hope you have all the treats you want and deserve. I Love you- Dad

Recommended if you are experiencing the loss of a pet
I disliked the numerous quotes in a row toward the end. I would have preferred more stories between the quotes. Recommended for anyone experiencing the loss of a beloved family pet
