This book is A Thousand and One Nights meets the Hunger Games and ACOTAR. I absolutely loved this story and it finally got me out of a book slump. Yes, there was no spice and sometimes it was a little slow but I absolutely loved it! If you want a story rich with story telling and mysteries with twists then this is the book for you!!

I am not so sure about the all the hype around this book. I usually like these kind of books: lots of vibes, predicable in many ways, but overall a fun time. But, I have to like the main characters and I just could not connect with them. If you have to keep repeating how smart the protagonist is but you as the reader can figure all the twists out way before the protagonist does, it makes it a little hard to believe. Romance was also supposed to be “enemies to lovers” but it was just insta-lust that turned into insta-lover just in time for the big betrayal. The big betrayal is treason and the main girl is angry that no one told her even though her mother is the freakin General! That would be super risky to reveal causally girl! The MMC also tries pushing the MFC away because he is not being honest with her but is totally fine with sleeping with her! Now, I was going to deal with all of the things I did not like because I had a favorite side character. Then off course ….. he dies! I almost didn’t finish the book, I was so angry. The rules of the world are all so very dumb. You can die at all steps of training and usually it is okay to murder each other without consequences. There is a war going on and they are fine with wasting so many lives just to emphasize the danger of being a dragon rider. Then, even if you survive everything, then you can still die if your dragon gets killed. I might be projecting but it seems like such a dumb rule after everything else occurs. This was a little bit of a rant but I just wanted to warn about how I was let down.
