Story
Who am I? I've forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I've only ever walked in stolen shoes.

Story line was slow
Reviewed: 10-22-24
I found the voice used to portray the male characters abrasive. The plot was good. The characters themselves were well thought out. I just thought they whole thing moved along a bit slowly.

Narrator is distracting and awful
Reviewed: 08-10-21
The narrator of the first book in this series was so perfect for the role that I can’t believe they replaced him with this horrible substitute. The story was excellent and edgy. Just distracted by the narrator.

I enjoyed the historical accuracy and the effort of the narrator to perform Cajun accents. Georgia accents not so much.
The story wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t good either.
The voice of the narrator sounded like a woman in her fifties rather than a woman in her early thirties which the character is supposed to be. I found that distracting through the novel. Last one by this narrator and author that I intend to purchase.

Tired Stereotypes
Reviewed: 08-18-17
I was disappointed with the tired stereotypes in this novel. What could have been a remarkable book became a diatribe of stale down south jimmy john-billy bob stereotypes that were not significant to the story.
I found myself offended by the description of the southern police officers as uneducated brutes who would elbow a female witness in the face. At some point, authors need to realize a responsibility to the public as teachers and role models. Rise above the easy stereotype and reach outside the box to a more realistic example.

My name is Slade Merrick and I'm a f--king sex addict... I've been told it's a problem. But I see it as a passion; something that I'm good at. And who the f--k stops something that they're good at? They want me to seek help; get my cock in check. Don't judge my lifestyle. You're no better than me. Just admit it, you like to f--k too. Sex is what I do best; my own personal high, so I embrace it instead of being ashamed. When I'm not f--king, I'm slinging drinks at Walk Of Shame or stripping my way into your bed.

Book was ok. The winner is Greylock as narrator. Too hot!!!!!
Reviewed: 04-24-17
Becket Greylock has got the sexiest voice of any man I have ever heard. I'm in love. Don't think I would care if he was green and had horns sticking out of his head. I could listen to him forever. That means he doesn't do a very good female voice. Who cares though when you can curl up at night and hear that deep raspy growly voice talk dirty as you go to sleep! I wish I could get a recording of him growling some kind of sexy morning greeting to set to my alarm. Pretty sure I would go into hock to wake up to that!

I have been a koontz fan for years but this was trite, predictable, and mainly flowery language to create fluff and take up space.
He should be ashamed to claim this disjointed diatribe.
